I think I have a way to fix what many consider to be the worst opening line of a novel.

It was a dark and stormy night, (and, that is how things stayed until I lit a match). :D

Except the match only stayed lit a sec because we were outside, in the whipping wind and rain, so the match went out immediately as we riders on the storm moved through the night light in next to total darkness :)
