What to do when only one of the spouses is converted to Christ (Part 1).
Indeed, it is problematic the unequal yoke:
• “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship does righteousness have with lawlessness? And what partnership does light have with darkness? And what agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have with an unbeliever? And what agreement does a temple of God have with idols? For you are the temple of the living God, as God has said, "I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." (Prov 12:25).
When somebody is single, they ought to bide in Christ for the right person, to wit, somebody else that have sincere and intimate contact with Him. After all, the Creator abhor mixed marriage (believer marry non-believer).
Notwithstanding, if after the marriage, one of the partners is converted to Christ, Paul instruct how the believer spouse ought to behave:
• “But to the rest I speak, not the Lord, If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is pleased to dwell with him, do not let him put her away. And the woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is pleased to dwell with her, do not let her leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; else your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.” (1Cor 7:12-14).
That is to say, the believer ought to gain the spouse through the manifestation of the testimony of Christ (see 1Peter 3:1). Never the believer can abandon the unbeliever spouse. Nevertheless:
• “But if the unbelieving one separates, let him be separated. A brother or a sister is not in bondage in such cases, but God has called us in peace. For what do you know, O wife, whether you shall save your husband? Or what do you know, O man, whether you shall save your wife?” (1Co 7:15,16).
This doesn’t mean that the believer can get married again. This mean that the believer can live alone in peace, without heavy consciousness.
You can say: “but, this is very difficult!”. Certainly. However, if the believer stays faithful to Jesus and His word until He transform the unbeliever or send him/her away, the believer’s heart will be perfected (Heb 12:5-11) and will experience pacific fruits of justice. Otherwise, traumas will arise in the heart of the believer spouse.
So, to those who think on divorcing, take away this idea of the mind.
Maybe you are asking: “And for those who already made this mistake?”.
Tomorrow we will speak about it. For the nonce, have a good weekend, don’t fleeing from the probations that the Creator put in your life in order to make you perfect, without missing anything (James 1:4).
