So I've been getting to know this group of kids really well over the past few weeks. They're Christians and I love hanging out with them because we get along great. But they get in trouble ALOT. Like one time at the mall, the one guy stole a few hundred dollars worth of stuff. Also, they go waaaay out of their way to avoid the police, which is kind of concerning. I like being around them because they're funny, crazy, and do fun stuff; but I'm not sure if I should hang out with them considering they tend to get into trouble so often. I don't want to lose their friendship because they're the only friends I really have anymore. My atheist friends....well you know with me being a "jesus freak" and all of that. Most of my Christian friends avoid me because I made some mistakes. Sooooo I don't know what to do here. Any advice?

If I were in your position, I would tell them, "Look, we're friends and all, and I love you, but I can't be around this. It's not cool and I don't want people thinking I agree with that behavior or assuming I'm a part of it. I want to stay out of trouble."

I have friends that do lots of stupid stuff. They sometimes tell me what they do. Do I hang out with them at those places or in those times they tend to do that stuff? No. I'm not going with "Bob" when he drinks. I'm not chillin with "Jen" when she does pot. But I'll meet up with them for lunch from time to time. We stalk each other on facebook. We talk everytime we see each other on campus. They're struggling Christians and need some love. :)

"Do not be deceived bad company corrupts good character" Thus says the Word of God.

Sounds to me like they are A) immature.. & B) 'church kids' more than Christians. i learned a long time ago there is more value in one good, trustworthy friend than there is in having a bunch of questionable friends. Quality not quantity.
Also, if they prefer to frequently engage in illegal activity, it is likely only a matter of time before you get caught up in it in one fashion or another. Either by them pressuring you to do something, or involving you without your knowledge... they get busted, but you're with them & get slapped as an accomplice. What if you & your friends went to a store, one, or all of them decide to shoplift. They get caught, round you all up & you will still be charged, as they will assume you were in on i & helping.
Just some things to consider. Draw your own conclusions.

Idk it's easy for me right now sitting at my computer to tell you that I can say no to them and not hang out with them and do what they do. But, when I'm actually confronted with the situations I always end up saying "yes."

Have you told your parents yet? They may just make that decision easier (as in, make it for you).

I guess I'm kind of immature because I really struggle with saying no when they invite me to hang out with them. I know I could get in trouble with the police if I hang out with them, but it's like I don't care. My mind is telling me that it's wrong and God doesn't like it, but I just feel like I don't care what happens. I keep praying that God would help me to stop being so immature and help me to make the right decisions, but I still make them. I'm sorry this is so hopeless sounding, but I don't know what to do.

Stop hanging out with them. Sometimes maturity is the ability to make the right choice in the face of temptation... but sometimes maturity is also knowing that if you can't avoid a temptation then you stay away from the problem all together. If you aren't with them, they can't ask you to do things, & you won't feel tempted to go along with them.

Haha... Girl, we are in the same boat... Lets make sure it doesn't sink lol :)
Anyway, it is better not to have any friends than to have bad ones. I have been disconnected from my good Christian friends ever since I finished high school... Since then I have had no one to hang around with and this site is where I do most of my cool interactions! Anyway, if you continue being around them you too will change, if you wanna live a cool Christian life, ask God to send new friends to you. Tell Him about it, He won't let you down! Yeah! I have an idea lets hang out!

This is great advice. I won't bore you with a bunch of quotes but let me just say that Jesus never said following Him would be easy. You have to decide whether you want to be a Christian or "of the world". And believe me, these people you described are not Christian.

Well you are maturing to make that statement :)

Your self-will just has to catch up with your mind.

I agree with the others...you need to find new friends. Your post doesn't sound hopeless; it's something most of us go through.

My daughter also has trouble thinking about consequences but please do consider them. Five minutes of inappropriate behavior can have a lifetime of consequences.
