What type of conversation are we taking part?
• “The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable; But the mouth of the wicked speaketh perverseness.” (Pro 10:32).
Many times, we don’t worry about the place that we attend or about the people with whom we hang out or convive. Nonetheless, take a look at this:
• “Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, and has not stood in the way of sinners, and has not sat in the seat of the scornful.” (Psa 1:1)
What is the subject of our conversations? Many times, people are telling malicious jokes that, even, blaspheme Jesus’ name and we are laughing together with them. Other times, they are making a fun of somebody and we are partaking of it (ignoring that only come into the Creator’s sanctuary those who don’t accept any opprobrium against their neighbor – Psalms 15:1-3).
Not to mention that many people vaunt when they hear about the disgrace of someone for whom they cultivate hatred (chiefly when they take part in the revenge and, apparently, are well succeed).
Nevertheless, observe this:
• “But you should not have looked on the day of your brother on the day of his alienation; nor should you have rejoiced over the sons of Judah in the day of their ruin; nor should you have enlarged your mouth in the day of distress. You should not have entered into the gate of My people in the day of their calamity; also, you should not have looked on his evil in the day of their calamity. Nor should you have sent out against his force in the day of his calamity. Nor should you have stood on the crossways to cut off those of him who escaped; nor should you have shut up his survivors in the day of distress.” (Oba 1:12-14).
It's terrible when we behave like this:
• “For they persecute him whom You have stricken, and they talk to the grief of those You pierced.” (Psa 69:26).
It’s good to remember that:
• “For he who has shown no mercy shall have judgment without mercy, and mercy exults over judgment.” (Jas 2:13)
So:
• “Do not be deceived; evil companionships corrupt good habits.” (1Co 15:33)
Although we need to be light amid the murkiness (Mat 5:14-16; Phil 2:14,15), have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them (Ephesians 5:11).
So, have a good day talking about only what is true, honest, right, lovely, of good report, wherein there is any virtue or praise before Jesus (Php 4:8).
