What's in a name?
I think we can conclude that a name is merely a chosen label, given either by God Himself, or by parents, or maybe also by peers and self, in the case of nicknames.
So often we see the character, the attributes and what not, of a person in a name. All throughout the bible we see different names presented for God the Father and God the Son, as well as them represented together as One, as in the case with Elohim. I have come to appreciate the ability to understand the nature of someone, Yahweh in particular, better by coming to know His different names. Often, the names given just show us the different perspectives of the different ppl in the stories we read. Sometimes the word, when broken down to the original Greek, hebrew, or Latin, we find the who in the name itself, like with the name Immanuel, the son of God, which means God is with us.
Now don't get it twisted, I'm not suggesting that the son of God is God, nor am I denying it. I think the complexities of the manifestations of God are way outside my pay grade, lol, every ones in fact. I am just saying that the deity of God was and is in Yeshua, the Son of God, and that He is with us, Praise His Holy Name.
Anyway, besides the many wonderful names given to the Creator, to our Savior, to the One responsible for anything and everything for all time and outside of time, there are also names given to places and their realms, such as with the Kingdom, Heaven, and Jerusalem. They also show and teach us more about the good news of the gospel. I take soothing comfort with all these nuggets of clarification leading me to paths of divine destinations.
In fact, did you ever take a look at the new name that will someday be assigned to the new Jerusalem, Yehovah Shammah, meaning God is there. Doesn't that bring you chill bumps? Doesn't that inspire you to want to be a part of His revealing in a true tangible way, a way has never before been available? I tell you what, it brings sweet tears to my senses thinking on such an experience fulfilled.
So...
Elohim, El Shaddai, Adonai, Yud Heh Vav Heh, Yehovah, Yahweh, Yahweh-Rohi, Yahweh-Shammah, Yahweh Raphi, Yahweh Nissi, Yahweh Shalom, El Roi, ABBA, I Am, Alpha and Omega as well as Immanuel and Yeshua, two of the names given for His son, are all names that deserve being used in prayer, in reflection and in coming to know the essence of our Holy Father and His Son.
Praise should be given to all His/Their Holy Names, in them dwells reflections of His/Their Majesty and Glory.
