So typically I take the time in Passover to meditate on The Exodus story.. I came across this morning:

Exodus 4:1-5
1 Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’”
2 So the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?”
He said, “A rod.”
3 And He said, “Cast it on the ground.” So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. 4 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand), 5 “that they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

" and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it."
So I read this then it struck me that the very first thing God did with Moses before he used him so powerfully was address his identity and the power of his hand.

1) God has to get Moses to look at his hand.. the hand that had killed in Egypt, and break the fear of his old identity off him... the lie that crept in, was that Moses hands were not made for deliverance but murder (ruining the plans of God, bringing death not life, releasing dishonor not honor to the Lord).

2) Maybe Moses' deepest fear was not that he was 'afraid of men' (timidity and weakness) but that he was 'afraid of man'. (The power of what he was capable of) That secretly he knew that God had made him incredibly powerful, that he was born for something great, to be a great deliverer of men... Moses was so powerful that he could give and take life with his own hands... I often wonder whether Moses stuttered growing up as the 'Prince of Egypt' ? ..I doubt it. I secretly wonder whether he got a stutter from after killing the Egyptian.

3) This action meant that Moses was 'broken' i.e. of no use.. (like a broken toy) not 'broken' i.e. for the use of one..(like a cowboy breaks a horse in)

3) So God takes Moses aside and shows him something that scares him... " and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it." God takes Moses back to the moment Moses looked at his hand and was afraid (when he took life) and shows him how he's going to use those same hands for good.

“But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’”2 So the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?”

4) Is it still true today that rather using convincing words or knowledge to show the world that Jesus is risen, that we must show the world 'what is in our hand' and that we are no longer afraid be known as powerful?

Our Greatest Fear
(Nelson Mandela 1994 Inaugural Speech)

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,
but that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.

And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

the Bible never accounted Moses killing the Egyptian as a sin toward Moses. The Egyptians were God's enemies, they were oppressing God's people. Moses were punished by man's law, but so were the disciples in Acts for preaching Jesus. oppressing is one of the most unpreached sin of the Bible. The story we should get from these scriptures is the paths of the righteous are guilded by God, or the same lesson we learn from Joesph:

Ge 50:19And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?Ge 50:20But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

It was while Moses was serving his sentence giving of man, That Moses found his mission for God, he found his Life, his family, where he learned about being a Shepard, Notice in Gen. 50:19 Joesph tells us if we are in the place Of God, we have no fear. This is the lesson That God tried to teach us in the very first lesson from scriptures of Good and evil, a lesson so much needed but seldom learned as God's people :
Ge 4:6And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?Ge 4:7If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
this is not a message from the Scripture that teaches us about, fear man, fear ourselves, But the message we should get from scriptures is.

Mt 10:28And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

we should never get a message of fearing anything except God from the scriptures,

2ti 1:7For God hath not given us the SPIRIT OF FEAR; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Ask yourself is this what we see some of the teachers doing?
Rom. 16:17-18: " Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own appetites, (carnal ones) and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple." People are so gullible because they want to trust others who claim the name of Christ. If someone wants to live like this on their own, that's their prerogative but if they are given free reign on TV and bilk others out of their hard earned money by saying to give to their work God is going to reward upteen dividends, that is another scenario. You can call this Spiritual racketeering.
What we find the word faith teachers doing is distorting the scripture claiming that God is teaching them spiritual ways to make money, your exchange is at the Bank of Jehovah, and the returns are enormous.
But Jesus said in Luke 6:24-26 "But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full, for you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
Gods true treasure is his word which makes one have a stronger and more intimate relationship with our creator Prov.2
Prov. 2:1-5: " My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God."
Prov. 7:1-2: "My son, keep my words, and treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and live, and my law as the apple of your eye."
Prov. 3:13-16: "Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, in her left hand riches and honor."

well I was trying to be nice but it seem to me that your thread was very negative esp. toward Moses. I was just trying to point out some positive things we should learn from Moses, and how Moses was used by God instead of being Scared by God. Just as the passover, can be looked at negative God Killed a lot of innocent people or as positive, for God delivered his people and fulfilled His promise to them. I just think as Christians we should always focus on the positive of something instead of the negative.

Eze 12:2Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, whichhave eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house.

Well thanks for taking the time to explain what you meant.. I've obviously failed to communicate something well here.. The thread is talking about how God begins the healing process for Moses, breaking fear etc.

A lot of times God will create a situation or uses a situation where the problem manifests as the opportunity to release life and freedom. That's what I'm saying.
