There are platforms such as cgtrader, turbosquid and others. They allow CG artists to publish 3d models of their work for sale. It's expected that each model might only get 1 sale. And many of them get nothing. Why? I believe the problem is resource sharing.

Just like Windows and Nintendo, Sony, and AAA game makers had been victims of piracy, the artist all over the world are victims of it. They might see a high end model for 25 or 50, buy it. Then share it with 100 ppl, who then share it with 100 or even 1000 people each. Just like they did to the game industry many years ago. What they did to the game industry is someone would buy it, then share it with many people, who shared it too.

What happens if the artist sees their model some where? A take down notice, yes, that is all that happens.

It's my belief that the people in the world do not have the nice things they would have, because they do this. Because they are stealing all the time. If they didn't steal but only had honest gain, everyone on the whole planet would have much more, and much nicer things. But they don't, most of the steal, so the whole earth is lacking.

This behavior pattern I am talking about, is one reason they want to plug AI into everyone. The AI would always be there watching them, observing their every move. The people who want the AI doing this, don't see any other way to fix the problem.

Tis a pity the world doesn't embrace real genuine authentic intelligence which already dwells within them. "The kingdom is within you."

So someone said to me, 'kickstarter'. Using kickstarter like they do video games, might work for 3d models.

I don't know about video games, drawing, or painting, but I've dabbled in following the creative arts community for some time (people selling handmade cloth and fiber goods, figurines, jewelry, etc. on Etsy.)

Unfortunately, making things public and selling them has probably always led to copying and there seems to be little that can be done about it.

And it goes both ways.

I've seen videos of small creators who hand-make all kinds of items -- then large corporations steal their designs and mass market them. However, it also works in the other direction.

I love t-shirts with cartoons from when I grew up and know of a site that specializes in helping independent artists sell their designs on wearables. But artists there often use copies or doctored renditions of licensed characters (for example, Disney, The Transformers, Super Mario Brothers, etc.) without paying for permission.

So yes, large corporations steal from small designers, but in other cases, small designers are stealing from the large companies. Obviously, if it comes down to a court case, the large corporations are almost guaranteed to win.

But I've seen many sites in which home artists are blatantly using properties that they obviously don't own in order to make money.

The general feeling from the community seems to be that it's an outrage when large corporations steal from small artists because they have so much money. But on the flip side, a lot of people don't see it as a big deal if "the little guy" copies a large corporation's designs, because they're just "trying to make a living."

I love supporting smaller artists/businesses, especially since they have unique things you can't find anywhere else.

But as a Christian, I feel torn, because whether it's the little guy copying Big Brother or Big Brother is copying the little guy, it's all still stealing.

And God doesn't say it doesn't count if one party has more money than the other, so I always feel conflicted when considering a purchase.

Of course that's what they are doing. What other intentions could they possibly have besides preventing people from stealing CG art? Lol.
There are probably more pressing issues in the US and in the west in general than digital "piracy"; but I certainly agree that people should not be doing it.
