David_1;1075278]I have a long history with Atheism and live in a country that is functionally Atheist.
I had never heard that Australia was an atheist country! The jobs of my granddaughter and family were in many European countries like England, Belgian, Netherlands, and Singapore. They always found spiritually alive churches, but it took hunting for them. Why do you think that is?

Even the people in the churches in America have lives run as much by secular culture as by biblical culture, and many people do not include bible in their everyday living even if they label themselves Christian, but we still have more active churches than these countries.

I call people who are dead to the Holy Spirit, but just going through the 'rituals' as functionally atheist.
Our Prime Minister is Atheist.
Christ is not spoken about in our media.
Australians would rather obsess about football. Which I loath.

I think atheists MUST have faith. They just don't know it though. Think about it...

They do have faith that God does not exist, without proof. The only way to know if God does not exist is to know everything. Atheism is a religion that worships the tin gods called science and reason.

Professing to be wise, they became fools, Romans 1:22

There has been times where I've doubted if God is really there, even times where it felt like He wasn't, so I can empathize with that belief. Personally I like it when an atheist doesn't mock me for my beliefs so I try to apply that desire of not being mocked to the way I treat an atheist.

So let me get this straight. You would still believe in Christianity if there was no heaven?

While there is certainly an eternal destination aspect to the Christian message, there are far more things in the Bible about God interacting with us on earth and in our daily lives. Since all that stuff is trustable, trusting in heaven is rather easy. And like I said, your answer to my question only verifies the Bible for me (not that I really needed any more verification).

Well let's say the eternal destination wasn't an aspect. Would you still believe?

I find it hard to worship a perfect being who created imperfect beings and then blames them
for his own mistakes.

Even if you could prove the Bible to be false, I would not go back to atheism. I used to be an atheist, and those were the most miserable years of my life.

Typical twisting done by typical atheists. You always want to try and pass the blame and not take responsibility for your own sins. Guess what, it doesn't matter whether or not you want to take responsibility and be held accountable for your life, it's going to happen.

I don't believe in sin. In order for sin to exist there needs to be evidence presented.

Before going any further please define what God is.

I don't believe you're human. You haven't presented sufficient evidence for that. (And yes, I'm being dead serious)

You don't care to listen, you've already made that clear with your intellectual dishonesty.

1st argument for atheism:

Burden of proof

Arguments related to the burden of proof deal with whether atheists must disprove theism or theists must prove theism. Conventionally, the burden of proof lies with someone proposing a positive idea - or as Karl Popper fans would put it, those who are proposing something falsifiable. By this standard, atheists have no need to prove anything, and just need to render arguments for the existence of God as non-compelling. However, the ubiquity of religion in society and history have often shifted the burden of proof to atheists, who must subsequently prove a negative. Assuming that God exists is known as presuppositionalism and has always been a key tenet of Christian apologetics but is usually rejected by more sensible scholars. The absurdity of being asked to prove a negative is demonstrated in Bertrand Russell's teapot thought experiment - where no matter how hard you look, you can't thoroughly disprove the belief that a teapot is out there in space, orbiting the sun somewhere between Earth and Mars. This sort of presuppositional thinking is illogical, so asking an atheist to disprove God is an unreasonable request.
Occam's razor can also be invoked as a guide to making the fewest assumptions, and assuming God exists a priori is a major assumption that should be avoided. Combining these thoughts to lay the burden of proof on theists indicates that without supporting evidence, the default position on God must be either weak-ish atheism or agnosticism rather than theism. Proponents of atheism argue that the burden of proof has not been met by those proposing that a god exists, let alone the specific gods described by major religions.

You have failed to provide sufficient evidence and you have failed to point out how I have been
intellectually dishonest.

What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. - Christopher Hitchens

Burden of proof, you want proof? Ok, go to a Christian church, find a Christian or two, and ask them to lay hands on you and pray to cast evil spirit out in the name of Jesus Christ.

There you go.

You have failed to provide sufficient evidence and you have failed to point out how I have been
intellectually dishonest.

I asked you if you would worship the God of the Bible if you were given sufficient evidence that you would say God exists, and you said no. Right there you admitted to being intellectually dishonest.

In that case, I dismiss atheism since there's no evidence to support it, and according to this quote, we can dismiss it since it has no evidence.

I asked you if you would worship the God of the Bible if you were given sufficient evidence that you would say God exists, and you said no. Right there you admitted to being intellectually dishonest.

That's not what intellectual dishonesty is. Even if the Bible is true why should I worship it? Why would the all powerful creator of the universe care? Here are some reasons why I find it hard to worship the God of the Bible:

1. According to your Bible I am to believe that human kind is sinful for Adam and Eve ate the fruit of knowledge. Why are we being punished for the original sin? After all, they ate the forbidden fruit, we didn’t. Reason would lead one to say it’s their problem, not ours. Even the bible contradicts itself by claiming in Deuteronomy 24:16, “children shall not be punished for the sins of their fathers.”

2. We are told that the Bible has no scientific errors and is utterly perfect/protected, yet it says the bat is a bird (Leviticus 11:13 & 19), hares chew the cud (Leviticus 11:5-6), and some fowl (Leviticus 11:20-21) and insects (Leviticus 11:22-23) have four legs.

3. Heaven is supposed to be a perfect place. It is of course, the place you strive for and name “salvation”. Yet, it experienced a war (Revelation 12:7). How can there be a war in a perfect place and if it happened before why couldn’t it happen again? Why would I want to go to a place in which war can occur?

4. We are told salvation is obtained by faith alone (John 3:18 & 36) and then the Bible claims that it is repentance that shall save us (2 Peter 3:9) yet Jesus told a man to follow the Commandments-Matthew 19:16-1 8 (saving by works)-if he wanted eternal life. So which way is it and how do you know your belief is the correct one?

5. If the Bible is our moral guide, then how can it make pornographic statements such as: “...they may eat their own dung and drink their own piss with you” (2 Kings 18:27)? Also consult Numbers 31 where a whole tribe of people, including the elderly and children are slaughtered. The only survivors were the virginal women, who were later raped by the “just and perfect” Moses and his men. Is that what you want your children reading on Sunday?

6. If God created everything, (Colossians 1:16, Ephesians 3:9, Revelation 4:11 & John 1:3), then he did create the world’s evil (Isaiah 45:7, Lamentations 3:38). Thus, he is responsible. Any being who could create situations such as rape, death, malnutrition, disease, molestation and murder is certainly not fit for worship.

7. For justice to exist, punishment must fit the crime. No matter how many bad deeds one commits in this world, there is a limit. Yet, hell’s punishment is infinitely greater. It’s eternal. Shouldn’t a sinner suffer until remorse is felt and the crime is atoned for? What “justice” is there in infinite damnation?

8. Except those of biased Christian writers, there isn’t one writing outside the Bible in all of ancient history that clearly refers to Jesus of Nazareth. The decision to dedicate my life to a deity requires at least one shred of conclusive evidence. Your lord knows non believers exist as a result of this, yet he makes no attempt to supply proof. How can the bible claim god wants all in heaven if he doesn’t make efforts to ensure that we all believe in him?

9. Paul says Christianity lives or dies on the Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:14-17). Yet Jesus made many promises concerning his return during the lifetime of his then followers. (Matthew 16:28: “There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom”. Matthew 23:36, 24:34, Mark.9:1, 13:30, Luke 9:27, 21:32 & John 21:22) None of these prophecies have come true. Does this not make Jesus a false prophet? If so wouldn’t that make Christianity invalid?

10. I find the idea that a man had to die for my sins revolting. If God was truly omnipotent he could have simply forgiven us. What kind of deity, would execute one child in order to forgive it’s others? Modern society would call an individual like this sadistic, insane and cruel. Surely, you would not worship a child killer, why do you expect me to? Would you find a judge worthy of the title who would allow my child to be executed in lieu of my sins?

11. John 14:12 states a follower in Jesus can perform any of his works and do it even greater. If you continue to insist I believe in Jesus, it is only fair I may ask of you to show just how strong your faith is. After all, you would be my “mentor” in Christ. I’m not a believer as of yet, but surely you are. Would you mind perhaps resurrecting a dead relative or walking on water?

12. Okay, obviously you didn’t do number 11 and backed out with the “this is metaphorical” excuse. Surely you can try Mark 16:17-1 8 which says believers can drink “any deadly thing” and “it shall not hurt” them. But I don’t think you would be naive enough to drink any arsenic offered. Perhaps I’m wrong and you would be willing to test the Book’s veracity-”lay it on the line” so to speak?

In that case, I dismiss atheism since there's no evidence to support it, and according to this quote, we can dismiss it since it has no evidence.

Please refer to the burden of proof in post #53. Atheism doesn't require evidence. It is your position, the affirmative,
that requires evidence. Do you understand?

Some people experience some really horrible things in their lives, go through a tremendous amount of agony and suffering. When God doesn’t appear to “save them” they feel let down and betrayed…three other feelings creep into mind:

1. God has turned hisback on them.

2. Gods doesn’t care.

3. God enjoys watching them suffer.

Of course, no one wants to feel these things about God. It is much easier to feel that He doesn’t existthan to feel He is a God that will turn His back, does not care, or enjoys watchingthem suffer. It is less heart-breaking.

My opinion is that when you get christian opinions on atheism, unadulterated from Godly desires, you can see right into their soul :)
