What is really interesting about an atheist's argument that God doesn't prove Himself to them; and hence, He must not exist, is that if God is real, He remains real no matter what qualification an atheist demands of Him. Because an atheist claims that if God does not exist if He does not do this or that, or that God does not exist because the existence of God cannot be proven by man, this has anything whatsoever to do with whether God actually exists or not. That's just a qualification set up by an atheist. If God chooses to reveal Himself to us in other ways, or anyway He chooses or even doesn't, for that matter, God still exists if He exists. An atheist is fool enough to assume God can't possibly exist because God doesn't meet an atheist's criteria for what exists? The argument that God doesn't meet some criteria an atheist lays down to prove God exists is ridiculously illogical in the first place. At least it's always about, if God exists, why does He do this or that or why doesn't He do this or that? It's always the same faulty reasoning. Because He doesn't? There might well be a good reason, in fact, I'm sure there is. But that still has nothing to do with His existence.

I'm not sure I'd call myself an atheist, but remember the part about absolute certainty?

Good opinions nice to hear them, and see the thread is back on track.

What are you doing? Praying.

unceasingly as what is said to do, for God's loving will to be done in all as God has called them not by force ever, by choice free choice to love all unceasingly
I found that the love of God can't be spread abroad in the heart of man, (flesh and blood)
It is God given, not to flesh and blood, rather Spirit, the resurrected Christ, where one receives new life, new thought life of Love God's type a heart transplant if one will
Tell me about what I am posting below, if anyone can perform this type of love from themselves perfectly to all others no matter what they say or do.
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud [SUP] [/SUP]or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. [SUP] [/SUP]It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. [SUP] [/SUP]Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.[SUP] [/SUP]Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless as all babbling will. But love will last forever! [SUP] [/SUP]Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.[SUP] [/SUP]When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.[SUP] [/SUP]Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

Psalm 14:1

King James Version (KJV)

14 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Would this include those of us that believe too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! are we to watch out and not remain fools, and do we by judging others and calling others fools? Can and or does this make us fools, when no ones obedience is perfect
[h=3]2 Corinthians 10:4-6[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]4 [/SUP](For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

[SUP]6 [/SUP]And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

So how can anyone of us continue to destroy the other by calling them fools, how does punishment cause one to change their mind willingly? and believe God for who God really is, LOVE beyond this worlds knowing or can ever know, or will ever know
Do we need to be careful of the following verse: and not be taken captive to the elements of this dying world?
1 Corinthians 3:3
For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

My opinion of god? He's an idiot who cannot show himself except to a few divine relations. Yea we're the fools for not believing...

Not like he can't just, you know, show himself to everyone? And you know, update the bible himself? Hmmm

Basebool, Sorry man for the judgements of others using the word to condemn, for God did not come to condemn the world, yet through Christ save the world
God just love you, me and all people he went to the cross for all, again I apologize for others using God to condemn, and please pull out of this trap, whole that you just fell into, for it is not God whom you are rebuking, it is the people that are rebuking you, who don't even know you
God does just love you please start from there, and ask for God to reveal God to you not me, nor anyone else please?
thank you

Not actually God it is actually a lot of the people that are, please see truth that this is not God's representation of who God is, it is misinterpretation of who God is

You know, I thought you were different. I thought you were respectful. I thought you were going to be a person I could have a decent discussion with. This post of yours proves me wrong. You are just a troll.

Danchance, please see what happened here, he was attacked and judged by others using scripture as if these are right as if Gos is doing this, when God is not doing this
And Basebool's reaction is of flesh fighting flesh. Who am I to condemn anyone when God through Christ chose not to condemn me?
How is the Love of God manifested in anyone that only loves those that love them.
When God through Christ went to the cross to die, for the whole world, who by that was condemned anyone? And I know you have received this have you not?
Therefor how are we to react to all? Condemnation or God's love? is the reaction of how one reacts a mark of flesh and or Spirit of God through me, you and all that believe, I think we all need to be careful of:
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Lesson our judgement of others. We never see the whole picture. Never.
there are 1,000 reasons a person can behave a particular way. We don't know what is going on in their movie that motivates them to act in that way. I never know how I'd behave if I were in the other shoes. Today little by little, it would be good to learn to be more forgiving. Learn to where we can come from a place of help, rather than Judgement.

Judgments are only based on what one sees, from their owns thoughts. From their own experiences. There is truly only one that knows all. that one would be and is the creator of all.
If one learns to listen to the creator as Jesus Christ revealed to all mankind. (Christ taught us, to do nothing or say nothing w/o Father's instruction first and foremost), we would make the right judgments, with out condemnation. ( coming from the one listening),much less likely
The ones that argued would reveal their true selves, as was done in the day of visitation from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Steer clear from arguments, seek the truth in all things and one shall be free from the world and it's traps.

I'm going to tell you what a friend of mine on another Christian site told me. Once you hang around enough of these atheists for long enough, you'll have a jaded view of them like me. Not necessarily inaccurate, but jaded.

Actually there is a lot of learning one can gain if one sifts all what is said or done through their hearts of God that separates all error from truth and responds like a dove, being wise as a serpent
Just food for thought. Whom did Christ come to save? and how does God do this by condemnation or Love God's type?

He does know. He said if he tells you, you just won't believe him. It's the same with all atheists. They don't care enough to check things out for themselves. They just sit back and make accusations. When people demand that you prove there is no God, you just say you don't have to. Why would that be? You assume your position is a given without proof? Yet you know nothing beyond what you've learned in books, seen on TV, and heard throughout your life. In other words, everything you think you know is based on hearsay evidence, and even that is interpreted by way of your senses, of which you cannot prove interpret even that accurately.

All know God is real, and many have misinterpreted God fro who God is and show no Mercy as God has done since the fall of Ada and Eve.
remember the parable:
Where the man was ordered to pay his debt to the king and pleaded for Mercy, and God gave that to him.
Then that man went out and did not have Mercy on others, hmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not deserve God's Mercy, never have, and never will. So if I do not love(have Mercy) how can I ever claim that God is love, when I demand others to see things the way I see them? Shame on me if I do not show the powerful Mercy that God ahs given me

Certainly you should understand that there's a difference between the bible saying Yahweh appeared in a pillar of smoke to the Israelites, and Yahweh being able to be demonstrated today.

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

just want to know what you think !

Atheism is a belief system
From Merriam-Webster online dictionary:
"one who believes there is no deity"
This position is untenable for one would have to be omniscient to authenticate it.
So, for those who BELIEVE in atheism they must essentially disregard reality.
We can see this from simple examples like Richard Dawkins, the high preist of atheism - (Information for the World's Business Leaders - Forbes.com,
1/15/2009) who has flatly lied to bolster his FAITH.
Atheist Ads and Evangelical Christians | Around the World with Ken Ham
Children who front Richard Dawkins’ atheist ads are evangelicals
So, to me atheism is merely an ~alternative~ belief system advocated by individuals
with a sense of hubris and arrogance that negates any worthwhile attempt at discussion or debate.
We can only, honestly, plant ~seeds~ with individuals of this ilk.

Definition of religion - a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

Apologists
frequently assert that atheism is a religion. Whether this is true or not depends greatly on what definitions of atheism and religion are being used. The argument is most effectively made against strong atheism, in which positive assertions are made that no gods exist, but even in that case there are real problems with applying the label of religion to something that is explicitly denying a central belief of almost all religions. Further muddying the issue is the purely legal notion that, for the purposes of the First Amendment's free exercise clause, atheism should be considered a form of religion worthy of protection.

Non-differentiating Definitions

  • Frequently, atheism is equated to religion by using non-differentiating definitions, meaning, aspects of a concept that do not distinguish the concept from others, are used for comparison. For example:
    • Religion is a group of people.
    • Atheists are a group of people.
    • Therefore, atheism is a religion.

Now that religion is based on groups of people, everything from baseball teams to people sitting in a waiting room, are now religions. Few would find the argument compelling: "Oranges are made of matter. Stars are made of matter. Therefore, oranges are kinds of stars." Whether something is made of matter is not what distinguishes a star from a non-star. Other non-distinguishing comparisons that commonly come up:

  • Getting together in groups / socializing
  • Having a set of beliefs
  • Having tax-exempt status
  • Having a belief about gods
  • Voicing our concerns/opinions ("proselytizing" or "evangelizing")

While most religions do these things, they aren't religions because of these aspects - but rather by a set of attributes that distinguish it from other concepts, such as belief in supernatural events or beings.

More to the point, is atheism a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe? No. Atheism is a lack of one specific belief, not a set of beliefs. Even strong atheism is simply a position on one particular issue: there is no god. Thus, even assuming strong belief in this point, that doesn't say anything at all about the actual cause, nature or purpose of the universe, except in the negative ("it's not God").

If atheism is a religion, then... (or: Atheism is a religion like...)

  • ...not collecting stamps is a hobby.
  • ...not playing golf is a sport.
  • ...not believing 13 is unlucky is a superstition.
  • ...bald is a hair color.
  • ...nudity is an outfit.
  • ...off is a TV station.
  • ...being healthy is a disease.
  • ...abstinence is a sex position.

Words are hidden inferences. By calling atheism a religion, the person wants to come to some conclusion using a syllogism such as:

  1. Religions force people to wear silly hats.
  2. Atheism is a religion.
  3. Therefore, atheism forces people to wear silly hats.
These syllogisms don't work. Humans have ten fingers; but if I lose a finger in a chainsaw accident, I am still a human.
Since you are talking about a very specific instance, there's no need to go through the generalization for any specific questions about atheism. However, this might have come up when the atheist in the conversation made a point about religion. In this case, talk about the specific aspect of religions that fits your argument, and stop using the word 'religion' (or synonyms). For example, when saying that religion is harmful, you might want to switch to saying that dogmatic movements are harmful -- an argument that might exclude a small number of religions and include some political movements used in dictatorships.

This is something that I should have posted a long time ago.

9. You spend hours arguing that a-theism actually means "without a belief in God " and not just " belief that there is no god" as if this is a meaningful distinction in real life.

Here's a good one too, on the topic of atheism being a religion.

266. You are part of a non-belief organization such as American Atheists, Church of Freethought, Humanist Association of Canada, Student Freethought Alliance and/or the Council of Secular Humanism. You claim these organizations have absolutely
no creeds and that the people involved independently think of different things from one another. Yet of course, on your organization's website they define the commonalities that all non-believers follow. Is that not the definition of creed?

I'm not a member of any of those organizations. Are you implying that all atheists are?

IF there was a requirement for an atheist organization it would just be "a lack of belief
in a deity." Everything else, all other ideas are up for grabs.

Is not believing in Santa Claus a religion?

9. You spend hours arguing that a-theism actually means "without a belief in God " and not just " belief that there is no god" as if this is a meaningful distinction in real life.

And you spend hours arguing that atheism is a religion and a belief system when it's clearly not. Why don't you
just drop it already and move on to something else?

Is not believing in Santa Claus a religion?

So grey, how come you never call strawman on this nonsense?

And you spend hours arguing that atheism is a religion and a belief system when it's clearly not. Why don't you

No, actually I spent about 30 seconds on that copy/paste. The reason we can't move on to a better topic is because you are arguing senseless like there's actually a meaningful difference between the 2, (see #9 above)

So grey, how come you never call strawman on this nonsense?

Probably because he knows what a straw man argument is and realizes that's not one.

Please read my post #372 and point out what is "senseless" about it. Thanks

Probably because he knows what a straw man argument is and realizes that's not one.

Actually, I found the real reason.

350. You jump all over a Christian's argument trying to point out logical fallacies, but when you see a fellow atheist make one, you say nothing, and instead try to defend him/her.

Please read my post #372 and point out what is "senseless" about it. Thanks

You still don't get it do you. It's not worth my time.
