A choice is a decision you make when you are faced with multiple options or possibilities based upon your specific circumstances. For example, some daily choices made involve: what you should order from a restaurant’s menu consistent with your appetite; or which route to take to work depending on the flow of traffic. Choices are generally believed to be voluntary or unrestricted; decisions you’re allowed to make freely – not decided for you.
The majority of people believe that having choices is a positive thing. What those people fail to realize is that an overly limited or artificially restricted choice might lead to distress and anxiety with choosing; and possibly, a disappointing product. In contrast, an unrestricted number of choices can cause one to feel unorganized and confused, regretful of the alternatives they could’ve chosen but didn’t, and/or apprehension in an unstructured reality; which tends to lead to the need to have complete control over certain objects or decisions made. This need can potentially become a psychological disorder. These are examples of when a choice really isn’t a choice. Another instance where a choice, isn’t a choice might be when you’re pressured or forced by someone or something (family, friends, leaders, opponents, religion, government, psychological disorders, physical disorders) to select a specific possibility from your choices – whether or not you approve of this “choice”.
