This biblical account cracks me up...
The prophet Balaam was riding on his donkey when the donkey suddenly turned off the road into a field. After hitting the donkey to get back to the road, the donkey started pushing Balaam’s leg up against a wall. After hitting his donkey again to move, the donkey just laid down. So Balaam, angry that his donkey wasn’t cooperating, struck it again. The Bible tells us what happened next:

Then the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?” And Balaam said to the donkey, “Because you have made a fool of me. I wish I had a sword in my hand, for then I would kill you.” (Numbers 22.28-29)

Apparently Balaam is too angry to realize that his donkey is talking to him.

And the donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey, on which you have ridden all your life long to this day? Is it my habit to treat you this way?” And he said, “No.” (Numbers 22.30)

Amazingly, the donkey wins the argument!

Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, with his drawn sword in his hand. And he bowed down and fell on his face. And the angel of the Lord said to him, “Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out to oppose you because your way is perverse before me. The donkey saw me and turned aside before me these three times. If she had not turned aside from me, surely just now I would have killed you and let her live.” (Numbers 22.31-33)

actually the donkey or ass as is the "proper" name,did not receive spiritual knowledge,the ass,(no I ain't afraid to type the proper name)already had knowledge and awareness enough to see the angel and protect her master balaam,read it again alongside the holy spirit and you'll see that this is true,though if you are saying that the ass was wiser than balaam,indeed you are correct,all God did was loose her tongue so she could speak to balaam!

Seriously one of my favorite Bible passages! Just think how our dogs can really understand us! I wish they would stop ME from doing stupid stuff by talking to me!

yeah lol though this passage doesn't necessarily show that all animals are smart or pure of heart,it's just for this account of a faithful animal,each animal just like us have different traits,moods,and knowledge,in fact for a more in depth look into animals and us,Ecclesiastes chapter 3,can tell you how that "we are as beasts" the difference is only that we have dominion over them for food or companionship,the ability to talk is not a sign of wisdom,as this passage shows clearly animals can speak,but only if God loosens their tongues,yet many of them are in some ways wiser or more faithful than us,just like God humbled Nebuchadnezzar on all fours as an animal,showing that God is the wisest and most powerful,we just many times think otherwise because we are made in God's image,making us think that automatically somehow we are wiser than animals but without God we would be no different than the animals today,just a little to think on,Ecclesiastes chapter 3 also tells that all such thoughts of superiority to animals is vanity,so count your blessings that God cared so much for us to not only make us in his image,but also give us dominion over the creatures that inhabit this earth,he didn't have to do any of this for us,yet he did and we should be grateful not boastful!
