:D Its buttered and lightly salted too. Enjoy!

I would tend to agree, however, I've been a part of some intense hand holding....don't laugh. I'm not even joking sadly enough. Haha

Just before a couple could hang out it is good to say a small prayer, it helps.Gives us a feeling that God is watching and that you are accountable to each other.Be it a christian or non-christian,if they cross the boundaries then they will have to face the consequences and will miss the blessing like King David.Prayer reminds us of our sexual boundaries and even if one person is weak lets say he/she cant just stop with kissing then its better not to do it otherwise its fine.Physical touch is an expression of emotional love for the person and it is necessary.

I haven't read all 4 pages of the thread, so sorry if the discussion has moved on!

I'm not against any level of physical contact before marriage. I am, however, not a fan of sex before love.
I guess from my life's experience, I don't see sex as anything particularly important to be between only people who are married. It's so natural to have incredibly strong sexual urges in relationships. I don't understand why would develop these feelings before marriage (or even before relationships) if we were supposed to not have them.

That said, I'd respect my partner's choices too.

Thanks, Possum. I think perhaps you misunderstood what this discussion was about, so in case no one else read the first few pages, I wanted to make it clear that this is NOT a thread that promotes sex before marriage. :) It's simply a thread discussing expressions of affection that do not include sex.

It seems to be about what point does physical contact stop before marriage, isn't it? I went back after and read. Some people said hand holding, others said kissing, others think hugs or more. Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with not having a line before marriage, but I do think some line before love.
I'm not promoting it, nor do I think anyone else is. Just answering the question that was asked :)

Okay :) Just wanted to be SURE no one thought we were saying sex before marriage was okay. You just never know! haha

I think there is a big range of thoughts. I think it's okay but then I'm fairly liberal. I wouldn't break up with someone who didn't want to - I'd respect their views. I respect everyone's views though, and I don't want to offend anyone! Just wanted to add my thoughts :)

Let me preface this by saying I was a 14 year old brat and I did get in as much trouble as I deserved for this... and though my opinion hasn't changed over the years I've just... become a little more tactful about getting it across.

When I was 14 our Sunday school leader did a month on dating and relationships, and of course it eventually moved to the topic of, "How far is too far?" He told us that there was an imaginary line on the human body that everyone should never touch beneath before they're married. Now naturally I assumed that line would be somewhere around the waist, or maybe a little higher for the girls... he then pulled out a diagram of the human body and proceeded to draw the line directly below the chin. He said, "This is called the 'Uh-Oh!' line. Any touching beneath this line is not okay." His wife was sitting in for that particular class, and I just looked over at her and said aloud, "Wow... I am so sorry."

I'm all for setting boundaries and limits... but to a point. Sex is one of those things I've come to understand that the more you blow it out of proportion... the more likely you are to do something stupid. Everything becomes alluring when it's "forbidden" and while I'm by no means saying you should teach kids to go have sex whenever they want, at the same time teaching them that all forms of physical contact lead to temptation that you have no hope of overcoming isn't healthy either. Temptation is a part of life. Hiding from it doesn't make you any better at resisting it, if anything it makes you worse at it. Enjoying physical contact with your partner is not wrong, and as long as you know yourself well enough to know how far would be too far, don't be afraid of possibly running into temptation. The more you encounter it, the better you become at resisting it. Kind of a part of growing up.

When it gets to the point where holding hands, hugging, or even giving a simple kiss makes you terrified that the next move will be in the bedroom... there's a problem.

Its never about the do's and don'ts...its always about the why? If we looked into that; it will help us set the right Godly boundaries that's necessary for self- preservation before marriage.

I agree, Vikki.

When I watch tv with my dog, I hug him and have occasionally even kissed him on the head. I'd hate to think I could show more affection toward my dog than toward someone I was dating without freaking them out. :)

I guess I always thought about it in a clothing sense. If its covered, its meant to stay undiscovered.

The more you encounter temptation the better you get at resisting it? I disagree with that strongly. Using that logic: Lets say a person is an alcoholic. The more he goes in a liquor store the better he gets at not giving in? No way. It's just increasing chances of falling again, which is foolish.
I believe what the Bible says, which is to FLEE temptation. Not to wave your hand over the flame and hope you don't get burned.

We're all addicted to sin in one way or another, so our boundaries can be a little different with various things. I do realize that..but to me, some things are black and white still.

My line comes well before most. I'd think hugging was okay, but I don't want to kiss unless I know I'm going to marry the girl. That's not just because of temptation though, it's just a huge deal to me because it's very intimate. I don't give things away easily.

The single biggest problem in this area, and many others is that people have a natural tendency to decide on an approach and stick with it......and that's the road to failure.

The interesting thing about this thread is that we see how many differnet opinions there are about it, which shows that there is no one way to deal.

I think there is a lot of merit to the idea of becoming desensitised to the issue of sex, and therefore diminshing it's power to tempt, it works, but not for the person who could become a sex addict, that person needs to keep the distance.

I would just like to say that if hand holding and or hugging causes you to jump someones bones, you should really consider A. Growing up or B. Living in a cave.

I know it sounds ridiculous but some people can be so attracted to each other that it may be hard for them to control themselves. I simple kiss can turn into a more passionate one which may lead to touching and beyond. So if you know that is you or if you find your mind thinking impure thoughts better lave it to a high five and blowing kisses in the wind.
