I agree with Matthew, this has been an interesting read. I've learned a lot.

I would never have thought this issue to be so stressful for many people. Why do you think this is? Do you think we are influenced by peers? movies/tv/other media? do you think porn addictions are more prevalent that we suspect? Are people uncomfortable with their sexuality?

When I think about the de-sensitization aspect, I think back to some of the girls I went to school with who had no brothers, didn't date much or have many male friends, and were very insulated from such things. When they went away to college, they found themselves in over their heads because they really didn't know how to relate to guys, didn't understand that many (hopefully not christians) separate sex from being in love, and didn't know how to assert themselves and draw boundaries within relationships. Several ended up in life-changing situations, and I don't mean in a good way.

I hope this clears up what I meant. I didn't mean that the farther you go in the area of physical contact, the less likely you are to crave it. :) That's far from true, and I think we all realize that. :)

The more you encounter temptation the better you get at resisting it? I disagree with that strongly. Using that logic: Lets say a person is an alcoholic. The more he goes in a liquor store the better he gets at not giving in? No way. It's just increasing chances of falling again, which is foolish.

Convenient how you completely missed the part where I said, "I'm all for setting boundaries... but to a point."

There is always going to be a point that you need to set and that point is where you know the temptation will be too great and you will absolutely screw up if you cross that point. So by that logic and alcoholic would be an idiot to peruse a liquor store. However spending his/her life forever hiding from all situation where someone may have a drink is not healthy either. If he/she is never exposed to situations where someone may have drinks how much more likely is he/she to stumble when that situation arises by surprise and they find themselves forced to face that temptation and say, "No."

Temptation is a part of life and learning how to resist temptation is an essential part of life. There are obvious scenarios where fleeing entirely is the way to go because you know yourself well enough to know what you can and can't handle. But fleeing every single time from even the most mundane of scenarios to the point where suddenly holding hands immediately means it will lead to sex... again, when that happens, there's a problem.

I believe in affection and definitely people who are courting should be expressive to each other; I just think people miss the point about purity

A pastor said what you know you can't do in public, don't do it in private.

I kind of agree with him.:)

A simple kiss can go a long way, (inapropriate touching, etc...) We might think that we know our limits but really, I would avoid any kind of physical contact that we know might lead to something else, just to be on the safe side.

God Bless

Well that's what you have to decide. You know what The Bible says, but you have to draw that line. You know what the bible tells you to do, now you have to make a decicion, I know it's a hard one, well there really is no line, you may see it and you may feel it but for God, there is no line. If you've thought it in your head you have already done it, very freely translated.
