MT 2:13-16 Following the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary flee to Egypt, (where they stay until after Herod's death) in order to avoid the murder of their firstborn by Herod. Herod slaughters all male infants two years old and under.

or

LK 2:21-40 Following the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary remain in the area of Jerusalem for the Presentation (about forty days) and then return to Nazareth without ever going to Egypt. There is no slaughter of the infants.

You do understand, don't you, that the Magi never visited the stable? They got to the area about a year and a half later, and visited a toddler at His house. And that is the first Herod ever heard about Jesus' birth.... that's why he ordered children all the way up to the age of two to be killed.

Just because one version does or does not tell of something doesn't mean it never happened.

A year and a half, hmm that's a long time, we do know from scripture Mary had to wait about 40 plus days before she could go into the temple, because of the purification thing, but a year and a half is a little long IMO.

Would you not add that at least two years past from the birth of Jesus until he was taken to Egypt. .
All That happens was not right away but what is recorded in scripture are the key events that God has chosen to record.

?????????? A year and a half has nothing at all to do with when He was "presented" at the Temple.

What are you even talking about?

The slaughter of the infants happened about 2 years after Jesus birth.

Luke doesn't mention it because he is writing from a different perspective and for a different purpose.

Matthew portrays Jesus as the suffering servant of Isaiah's prophesy.

Luke portrays Jesus as the Anointed Messiah (the Christ).

Both are correct both target different audiences.

If you take a look the Magi went to a house tho visit the Child .
Mathew 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
Some time did pas then Herod ordered the death of the children two and under by using the information from the magi .
Mathew 216 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
It looks close to two years to me

Mmm, I'd say about 6 months after the birth of Jesus, but honestly who knows scripture doesn't say exactly how long.

the reason IMO that Herod ordered all children under the age of two years old, is that I don't think Herod believed the magi time frame, I mean they already skated without going back to him, so I believe Herod wasn't going to take any chances in time frames he made sure he covered his bases, but as we all know no one can out smart God, hehe...

But I've read this much in the OT, Mary had to wait awhile before going up to the temple in jerusalem, this was a requirement when giving birth to a child in the OT. So at least I can say for sure more than a month. lol

actually in scripture says when the angel of the Lord came to Joseph right after the magi left, once Herod found out they tricked him and didn't go back to report to him, that is when he went on his rampage.

Either way is creditable although I lean towards two years my self. No doctrine is made or destroyed here still interesting to dwell on .

Indeed I can't say 100% no it wasn't 2 and a half years, seems quite a long time went by to me but that's just me...

these non salvation based debates about time frames etc, are fun and interesting to ponder on, was it 6 months or one year or two years, it boils down to just logical guesses and theories of how long, not me nor anyone can pinpoint it down to a exact science.

These pictures of magi at the manger crack me up, I mean really I don't think the people who made those pictures have even picked up a bible to read it, movies do that in a similar fashion.

Though I guess that could be a house in the back ground of the photo, maybe it was a warm night, Joseph and Mary brought Jesus outside, lol

One way to tag the time would be to estimate how long it would have taken the Magi to travel from "The East" (wherever that was) Remember, they traveled no faster than the servants who were walking alongside their camels. That would likely be around 10 miles a day...... and it is doubtful they traveled, nonstop, hoofing it every single day. They probably observed some religious travel restrictions like the Jews did.

it doesn't, then what time does that get added to before the birth of Jesus or after, I'm not trying to rude or anything, but if like you say it was 2 and a half years before the magi came, joseph and Mary took Jesus up to the temple after Mary went through her purification period of 33 days before that Jesus was circumcised 8 days before Mary started the purification period that puts it at around 1 month and a half alone, after the birth of Jesus, if your going to say 2 1/2 years then that has to be included too. Wouldn't you agree

Since it is unlikely important men like that traveled without a full support staff (servants and body guards), and figuring there were probably at least ten of them (the kings), that would have made the whole party close to a hundred people. That many people do not make for light and fast travel.

When did I ever say that? I said "about a year and a half." (18 months, give or take)

Thats only true if they had servents with them, the camel thing as well, the magi had money no doubt to bring such gift as they did, but they could have rode on Arabian horses. or like you said walked now that would have been some time to walk from another country, intersting enough scripture doesn't even say what country, they could have been next door in that country 10 miles over the boarder.
