White House draws rebuke for saying ISIS trade, Bergdahl swap different

The White House claimed Wednesday that a potential prisoner swap between the Islamic State and Jordan is different from last year's trade of five Taliban prisoners for U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl because the Taliban are only an "armed insurgency" -- an explanation one congressman called "nonsense."

White House spokesman Eric Schultz sought to make the distinction when asked about the Jordanian government's willingness to release a female jihadist, in a bid to secure the freedom of a Jordanian pilot captured in Syria. ISIS also is holding a Japanese hostage, whom they have threatened to execute.

Schultz reiterated that "we don't pay ransom, we don't give concessions to terrorist organizations."

Not a terror group, hm?

Let's see: In the last few months, the Taliban have machine-gunned a girls school while classes were in session and mounted an armed assault on a Pakistani school where some of the nation's highest-ranking military officers send their children, killing dozens of young girls at the first location and over a hundred children and some 40 teachers at the second. They've hanged a seven-year-old boy for having U.S. dollars in his pocket. They routinely behead or slit the throats of those they believe had cooperated with anti-terrorism forces in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.

And oh, by the way, they are listed as a terror group on the government's own National Counter-Terrorism Center website. But according to the White House, the Taliban is "not a terror group, but an armed insurgency"?

I don't what they're smoking up there, but as an addictions counselor, I could send them a fact sheet detailing why they need to stop before it causes brain damage. But then again, it's obviously too late for that.
 
Ain't this between Jordan, Japan, and the Islamic State?

I guess America just enjoys testifying against itself even when there is no reason to do so.

I think it will get bad this year in Afghanistan as fighting season approaches.
 
Can anyone give me a good reason for a single US soldier or piece of Us equipment to remain in Afghanistan?

America itself designed an agreement and said it would remain in Afghanistan. The Afghan government agreed.

Whether this is a good reason or not, judge ye, but that would be the reason.
 
It's excellent to rename things.

Sometimes I call my underwear a hat...
and wear them on my head when it's cold out.

Agree, It's a valid reason, but I have my doubts that God approves of it.

the truly sad part of this story is that I've seen him do it..............(that's a mental picture that I will never be able to erase)
 
Two weeks ago John Kerry called them terrorists...........Jan 13th I believe...........

2013 Obama called them terrorists..............

2014 White House spokespersons called them terrorists..............


one man's terrorists...........is another man's cannon fodder....................or something like that
 
well the taliban are a local militia group trained and funded by the CIA prior to 9/11

so yes they aren't a terrorist group, just a military group defending against illegal invaders

The subtext narrative that's being written is that Obama is weak on terror, and the premise for that is he doesn't use strong enough words to describe the people he's killing through drone attacks, bombing attacks, and the like.

Hey let's backup....He's killing these folks with drone attacks, bombing attacks, and special forces attacks...
He can call them fluffy red bunnies for all I care, what matters is that he's drone attacking, bombing attacking, and using special forces against the fluffy red bunnies.

The lesson to be learned is this. If you're a president doing attacks with drones, bombs, special forces, be sure to use the strongest possible language to describe the people you're killing. Because if you don't use the harshest words possible, then those bombs you're dropping turn into fluffy yellow cotton candy, and no one ends up harmed.

Yes, he has used many drone strikes................but, remember, a video some guy made about terrorists, and Gitmo are SUPER RECRUITING TOOLS for the terrorists, oops, armed insurgents, AND HIS DRONE STRIKES are not?

I don't really care what they call them either.................but to not know who we are at war with is a dangerous thing in my opinion...............Radical Islamic Extremist.........Terrorists........

On one hand people want him attacking the terrorists, but since it's Obama doing it, they can't be for it, so they bring up the issue of civilian deaths. Of course they don't show the same concern for the THOUSANDS killed in Iraq in Bush's war. Which indicates that "concern" over Obama's killing of civilians with drones, is at least intellectually inconsistent, maybe even insincere.

News Report suddenly ends in 2012 when even Obama was calling the Taliban terrorists.............so not much support there.

As for killing civilians, that criticism is mostly coming from the Hollywood left who are not pleased with his "drone 'em" policy of prosecuting the war on terror. Drone away in my opinion.........but know who you are targeting......Radical Islamic Extremists!

Again, that person formerly among us is ancient history in Political years............and that's a blessing..........now what about those he is rushing to release from Gitmo? Oh, wait, they were "freedom fighters." :)

Yes, he is in a tough situation, but he has created much of the problems for himself in my opinion.
