Who do you think the two olive trees are in Zechariah 4?

The two olive trees are often identified with Zerubbabel and Joshua the High Priest, as they are mentioned in Zechariah 4:6-10 and 3:1-10 respectively. But to my knowledge, Zerubbabel was never anointed as king or anything else. And it seems like the message in Zechariah Chapter 4 was that Zerubbabel would receive help from the Spirit to build the temple via the two olive trees. So I think Haggai and Zechariah could be the olive trees. They encouraged the people to build the temple through their prophesying.

"Then the prophet Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophets, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them. So Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak rose up and began to build the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and the prophets of God were with them, helping them." (Ezra 5:1-2 NKJV)

"So the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they built and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the command of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia." (Ezra 6:14 NKJV)

If this is correct, then Zechariah would be prophesying about himself. Maybe that's why the angel asked him twice whether he knew who the olive trees were (Zech. 4:5, 13)

But what do you think?

Zechariah 4 its definitely Zeubabbel and Joshua i would argue.

In revelation 11 its probably the church because its also called the two "lampstands" which we are told in chapter 1 are symbols of the church. There are 7, and two of them got a positive report. That would be the remnant church.

Since you mention Revelation 11, those two were "prophets" (Rev. 11:10). If they are similar to the two olive trees in Zechariah 4, shouldn't we expect two prophets instead of a governor and a priest? I'd be interested to hear why Zerubbabel and Joshua are such good candidates in your opinion.

Interesting allusion to the 7 churches and 7 lampstands. Do you think the 2 churches will be killed and lie on the streets of Jerusalem for 3 days? (Rev. 11:8)

I agree. The two anointed ones, Zechariah and Haggai
