**spoiler, or, er, maybe not 'that' but certainly, forvthose wanting a completely fresh take it will sully that knowledge**

This story about a hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, charged with a request by Gandalf, to save a small world, to not be afraid, to go and see what lies ahead, to know the protection of the great wizard will be with him, what about this man who looked the size of a little boy, maybe, a little stockier than most but the same in stature, but not, oh, no, not the same in mind.
Bilbo was the one chosen for a duty, a great job, he was, some would arguably say, the unlikeliest hero of all. He is a great standard of who in Scripture?
Does making Jesus coming to save the world relate to Bilbo Baggins quest in saving a people in need with no one else in all the land ready to stand tall?

What about JRR Tolkien, what can you tell me about him?
Is there a reason this story of The Hobbit and LOTR, especially the third installment, Return Of The King, are named as they are?

What choices in the movie does Bilbo Baggins make that mirror the life of Christ, and, maybe, too, you want to add, themes that prevail in other bible stories?

Bilbo sure does get himself in a lot of 'close calls,' doesn't he?

Was there anyone in Scripture (the bible) who got himself/herself in tough fixes? How did they get out of those fixes? How did Bilbo Baggins get out of his scrapes in The Hobbit?

And, you thought this was just asking about bilbo baggins, the furry legged hobbit? Nope :) There's much more than that.....
I've not seen The Hobbit new movie, but I've seen the cartoon feature-length show, and, this is the opening song , maybe, it's time for you to get together with God and think about what great adventure He's in store for you, might be great, might be small, don't matter, from raising (kid(s) to raising emoloyees as CEO of a company, it's none greater than the other in His eyes, His plans for you, just do them for the glory of Him who created you for your greatest adventure of His for you (Eph. 2:10)

Now this could be in the bible discussion forum, but, the Lord leads, and, here I am, Christ peeps, relating ole Bilbo to you. A little variety don't hurt and how may you relate to this little human; is he at all like you in your life?

What kind of a person was this Bilbo Baggins? Any answers matter :)

Only people who saw the movie can answer most of those questions Green. I for one have not seen it, so i wouldn't know.

*green nods his head like 'yeah.'

Yeah, right, nods, I'm just gonna hafta keep waiting for that all-knowledgable person , who's seen 'Hob,' comes red-robin-bobbin along, in furry feet, like Furby, but different, who has a keen understanding of what kind of 'status' bilbo baggins was, of what kind of hero . :)

FTR, nods, I still think you are all-knowledgable even though this particular knowledge alludes you :)

The following commentary video is a good start...discusses issues in the hobbits such as the ''dragon sickness'' of greed/materialism, being asked to make sacrifices, making the choice to show pity and be merciful...etc.

The main thing you need to know about JRR Tolkien is that he was a magnificent scholar and linguist, and also a very devout Catholic and man of spiritual and imaginative depth. His faith, his belief in good vs evil, deeply impacted his works, especially Lord of the Rings. Understanding the Christian faith of the Author is key to understanding the works for sure!

I often wonder how much of those Christian themes expressed in both works fly right over the heads of those watching the movies without a strong Christian background to look to as a reference point.

Who shows who mercy and pity in The Hobbit, I wonder. The goblins are not merciful, the dragon, certainly, not, overly prideful, for certain, which can explain his fall, but, hmm, yeah, not sure where that mercy you speak of, C_C, comes from. Who pitied Bilbo Baggins?
-----Christian!
Why yes that answers one question asked. JRR Tolkien is a Christian. And, true, good and evil is prevalent in LOTR, but, it's none less unmistakable, to me, in The Hobbit.

And, a question remains, what kind of person was Bilbo Baggins, what does this tell you about yourself, and, God's poWer to do 'great' things through your life, singles?
