The new wine ,truths of the full revelation of God's way of salvation and His goal of making sinners into holy saints, into the likeness of the Son of God, byMary, the perfect man Jesus, is so radically different compare to the old cov. ordinances, rules, laws of civil life, that the nation of Israel was given to govern themselves with, as unsaved sinners. Jesus knew that the new truths for the Church were so different that they could not go into the frame work of a nation full of lost people. The lost had to be forced by punishments for braking the letter of the Law of God, and forced to live out the spirit of the laws, LOVE. They could not keep the letter or spirit, of the law in their sinful flesh, with out the new birth. Furthermore, the new Cor. gives us liberties which the lost can not live by. The new rules of Liberty would be abuse by the unsaved. The freedoms which are given to Christians can only be lived out righteously by a saved person ,who lives by the power of God within their hearts. This freedom is allowed to us because our renewed conscience, remade in the image of holiness, to choose what rules on gray matters that the individual may choice in Christ. Will I choose to drink a little wine for my health sake, or will I have a weak conscience that forbids me to drink alcohol. Will I own a TV. for my home , will I eat pork, dog or others foods forbidden by some people. ? Will our church practice foot washing? and will I send my children to a christian or a secular university? The change for the children of God was a big challenge for the Church. Love in Christ. That is a good explanation of the physical - would you be so kind as to explain for us the spiritual application to that?
I do not think all Scripture is allegorical.

The covenant blessings were material.

Even the New Cov. blessing are part physical as well as spiritual. We will inherit the earth, Mt. 5:5. This obvious taught in Rev. 21 We will live on the new earth for ever, not in Heaven for ever.. Most figurative or allegorical passages have a literal meaning. Most Reform Christians deny the literal meaning of the figurative language of Revelation; his is very, very wrong. Love to all ,Hoffco

Since God told Aaron and Miriam that he gives prophecy in riddles (dark sayings) to everyone
but Moses (Nu 12:6-8),

all private (as distinguished from Biblical; e.g., Da 2 or Rev 17:15-18) interpretation is uncertain,
and can be, and is, validly interpreted by others to mean things entirely different.

How do you know with certainty that your interpretation is correct?

Hi Ms Elin, this is an interesting and careful way of putting it! Are you maybe a seminary professor or a preacher's wife, or something like that?

I'm dispensational and I tend to take passages literally where possible.

Blessings.

Then the bible contradicts itself. Do you believe that? Do you think 2 Peter is more symbolic than Revelation? That is absurd to think.
.............. the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up................Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved...............the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?..............Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth

Thanks for the compliment, but I am not nor have been either,
I'm nothing more than a student of the Scriptures, with
a little more than the "average" background.

I'm not dispensational, so I'll avoid "crossing swords" with you, but
am willing to discuss in this area without attempt to convince, and
with respect for your beliefs.

What are the physical blessings of the new covenant?
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.....
What things was he talking about? Food, clothing and shelter?

Hi brother Phil112, I think you know"symbolic" from "literal" . Your, and Elin's, problem is, you will not believe all of God's words. You both pick the parts you like and ,like D.L.Moody, you throw out the "bones and eat the meat". That man didn't know the "whole truth " of God. But, I am very humble to know all that God did thru Moody and what little I have done for God. The key word is "GOD" did, not Moody, much of Moody's works will be burned up. Peters' "fire" is literal , Jesus, with a sword coming out of His mouth is "symbolic", K.I.S.S. LOL, OK? LOVE you ! Jesus riding a white horse in the sky, is symbolic. Jesus ruling the earth for 1,000 yrs is literal. New Heaven and a New earth are only refashioned ,remodeled. some day, literally. we will meet at Jesus' feet, literally. "what a day ,that will be, when my Jesus we will see" Sooner than you think, my brother. ?? Love, Hoffco, Doug Good answer dcontroversal, "sarcasm" works words all the "time",?? "Why thanks Elin" , Elin, you asked for it, LOL. LOVE you

Thank You K,

Very helpful article. Many years ago I heard the glass break in my brain as the Dogmas I once guarded were being removed from my brain. THis feeling of rooting out errors from our mind are so enjoyable and welcome that I pray daily for the removal of error, for eyes to see and ears to hear.

Sincerely

SG
