I loved death metal as a teen. Guess what. 20 years later i still love it. I survived the purge and never lost interest. So, no, i'm not a scenester. In fact i still enjoy nearly everything i listened to back then. And have gotten into more of those styles, and into more styles in general. And not just metal. So yeah, no posing here.

I get what your saying. Metalcore is slowly turning into pop screamo tech crap so I feel you. I just thought the 15 year old joke was right on, except I was 14 when I started playing. Death metal is one of those sub-genre you can mix up and it produces something great. Like Opeth \m/

Yeah, DM can be used pretty diversely. I don't do much secular music anymore, but Opeth was pretty cool.

Yeah, the '15 year old' comment wasn't so much a criticism on teens and learning to play but on the 'black metal' kids that realize how much black metal sounds like crap, and recorded horrible and is called 'raw' so they can do it too. Ugh.
Its great that teens learn to play music early. Without that there would be no metal scene. I just hate it when they play for 6 months and think they're 'ready'. Then start posting music on FB and selling 'demos'. No matter what style, haha.

There were a lot of bands in northern Indiana pulling that garbage, most of them were horrible. Although when Kingston Falls got started only about three of them had experience, and their vocalist was 16, they had this super dark sound, and had plenty of moshy moments, but an overall uneasy, drudgy feel to their music, and the boy could growl like nobody's business. They were pretty wicked in their first days, I'm not going to lie.

Yeah, there are rare bands that can pull it off at a young age and sound good. But not most. I remember when i was bout 15 a friend let me borrow this secular DM compilation. All the bands were pretty good. He asked me what i thought about one of the bands and i liked them. Crazy lyrics, lots of cool words (this was just before i started writing and learning those cool words, haha). Turns out the whole band was like 13-15 years old. And you couldn't even tell. I think the only thing were the vocals weren't as deep... puberty, haha. But even those weren't too bad.

Oh yeah I see what your saying. My vocalists wanted to have something recorded 2 weeks after our first practice. Thank goodness the computer broke down lol! So now we have all learned to take time and increase in skills before making a song. But yeah, Opeth is so great that my band and I (of course) want to do a cover song. Extol started as teens and look at them now. Great learning experience, but you shouldnt be proud of the crap you produced if it can be mistaken as an outake album.

Ex) forced abortion. Um this band said periphery sucked so I listen to them. I laughed sooo hard.

Really? I thought they were a hardcore punk band. Could you maybe post their old stuff?

I would if I could. They only recorded a four song demo with that style, and I no longer have it. The only ones that stuck around to see Facedown since that time though were Brent, Josiah, and Joshua. Who, oddly enough still play together as Kingston Falls with just the three of them.

Hmm, its amazing how you can come from heavy to lalala stuff lol. That reminds me of Embodyment's change in sound.

Embodyment went back to heavy though. Funny story. I went to see Demon Hunter with Living Sacrifice right after LS reunited, and this band gets on the stage, called the Famine. No one knew who they were at the time, and I'll a saw was a bunch of guys from texas doing some killer HEAVY metal...come to find out, they were formerly known as embodyment, only with the original vocalist back again.
 
Never really like the Famine. I heard there song: 'Cosume Devour Repeat' it was ok, but lackes certain qualities.
