I'm reading 'Near death in the ICU' by doctor Laurin Bellg. She makes a point of not dismissing anyone's account.

Why do so many people scoff at these kinds of stories or dismiss them? Often because they don't fit their religious views. There is so much we just don't know, is it not best to keep can open mind.

I think someone critically ill has no more illusions and sees life and death for what it is. The soul is only in this body temporarily. This life is nothing but a moment. What each person's relationship with God or not is their own business. We are each on our own, whoever we think we are or however important we think our role is while we live. Billionaires or pauper, we face eternity alone.

I choose to believe God is real. This comforts me.

Many experience Him 24/7/365, what He does for one, He will do for another, He is that wonderful.
Ask Him to reveal Himself more and He will.
bless you

On the other hand: If it is real, what does it matter if some don't believe it? There are people who don't believe the earth is round. Doesn't change airline flight patterns.

I neither dismiss or accept unconditionally NDE's. Some seem genuine, others seem more in line with the occult. The only sure word is God's word.

Some of us believe it is round like a dish, just not round like a ball. But I think it is a valid point - atheists don't have a consistent explanation for Near Death Experiences. Not sure how Christians can explain them where they are scripturally inaccurate - deceptions maybe?

Let us reason together.
Einstein's formula E=MC Squared shows it is all energy, everything was created out of energy, and energy can never be destroyed, it goes from one form to another.
To believe that life ends when the heart stops defies reality.
Spirit, soul and body, of course the earth suit wears out and is discarded.
bless you MaryM

It is God's Word that shows how Holy Spirit will guide, speak and show His Own in these days.
We were always meant to experience God, not just read His Book, just as He was experienced in the Garden before the Fall.:)

Certain church groups have become VERY good at justifying incons... er, "explaining" inconsistencies between different religions so we can all come together and sing kumbaya. A few near death visions are not even a blip on the radar for them.

because very few people have experienced them. it's quite a rare event which means people have no condition response to it. it's like saying, "i just saw mike tyson in the store". no one is going to believe you. & people rarey talk about it.

Lol. I meant explanations that stood up to at least minimal levels of discernment. :p

Because there's so much we don't know is exactly why I remain skeptical. People experience something, but what that is and what causes it remains an open question. I believe God is real, but what these experiences are remains to be seen.

Holy Spirit guides in ALL truth, ask Him, Jesus promised He would guide in all truth for He will speak only what He is given.

I agree with you entirely. However, I also know that no experience will contradict God's word. It's our safety net, so to speak. I've had an out of body experience. I watched a dentist pull my tooth while I was under anaesthetic. I also know that such experiences are occult deception, not real. The danger with some NDE's is that they contradict God's word. I would hate for people to be given false hope.

That adds up physically. But what about mentally and spiritually?

I have doubt about your post, we know we are spirit, soul and body, when the body dies our spirit and soul return to the Father.
There is much we have not learned of Him yet.
It may be the unredeemed have experiences that are not of Him, I have yet to hear of any.
I have heard it taught when a person is trained to take out a sentry, it is essential to not look at the sentry, his spirit will pickup your spirit and he will turn.
best wishes:)

Interesting. Not sure what you mean?

I have read many accounts of non-religious persons who sense a very loving good presence looking after them anyway.

It is ALL energy and appears that linear time itself is a creation, a construct, made for us to live and honor our Creator before we stand before Him and out eternity is determined by whether or not we knew Him and walked out His plan for our life or lived in rebellion.
Ask Him, be ready to wait upon the Lord for His answer, staying in communication with Him.

Perhaps His love for us is so great those who did not make the right decisions here will have another opportunity, our "churches" have not always led us in truth but rather tried to scare us into perpetual fear of our loving God.
I too have read accounts, but these were where the first spirit they encountered welcomed them, then soon the ugly side of the demonic realm became manifest and only Jesus interceding brought the person back.
We are to experience Him, not merely talk about him, He will confirm his truth to us personally and individually, it's what the Bible teaches.
blessings:)

I reckon I increasingly believe that. The way fear and punishment has been used to attempt to make people turn to God is so counter-productive.

I recommend anyone curious about this phenomenon read Dinesh D'Souza's book Life after Death. Even noted atheist Christopher Hitchens noted the strength of D'Souza's arguments. Well worth the effort!
