Why are there so many different sects?

The only problem is that if it does not line up with the simplicity that is in God's word then it is wrong.

Just because one thinks they are correct does not make it so as the word of God says that false teaching will blind people to the truth.

The word of God also says we do not have to seek out man made teaching systems or take classes to learn the truth in His word. It says that all we need to do is go in prayer and ask Him personally and He will by the Holy Spirit reveal that knowledge to us. There was no such thing as bible college or seminary school in the early church, so why do we think we are to rely on them now???

You think you're correct. So by your own logic, thinking you're correct doesn't make it so.

The problem still exists.

It is not by my own logic though, as that would make it not correct.

Notice how Jesus said those who speak on themselves are wrong, but those who give credit to God and His Holy Spirit as the One who gives all truth and knowledge that those are the one's who have seeked out the truth.
 
The deceiver attempts to divide His Church by using theological differences between believers to discredit all believers. Theological differences have existed since the church in Jerusalem. All one has to do is read the Book of Acts to understand this. Mans salvation is determined by his personal relationship with God, not with theological ideology or denominational teachings. Anyone who places their trust in the wisdom of man is already lost.

No the Catholic's say if the Pope or Apostles state it, it has to be followed as their dogma.
I know I was in the Catholic church for 5 years and they put what the Pope or their preachers say before what the word of God says. Pope is even a term for Holy Father and Vicar of Christ which means in place of, and both of these terms are not allowed in the word of God for any man to go by.

I like what you said here because you spoke on theological ideology and denominational teachings as being wrong for people to trust in which is true.

We though are called to continue and stick to sound doctrine of His word, and that sound doctrine is to continue to keep and follow all of His teachings. Not to take away or add to His word for if one adds to the word God says He will add the plagues of the book in Revelation to them, and if they take away He says He will take their name out of the book of Life.

so Zoe you might begin to see the enormity of your question that has at its core a very simple solution...people do not really like to die to self and they do not really like to be wrong and they do not really think the other one is better than they are and they do not actually believe their own press half the time


which is why Jesus put the expectations on extending His own character through the Spirit of God...in other words, we cannot do it ourselves

it is worse than one of those 1000 piece puzzles of a white horse in a blinding snowstorm

    not to be confused with cult? although some become cults

    I find it helpful to remember that Jesus said that Christians would be known by their love...not their beliefs..and that, indicates actions, not words

I want to say that what confused me is not really the difference itself. It is that, why people emphasize that I belong to this or that church? isnt it supposed to be one church in Christ?
Im so inpired by all the replies, thanks to all you guys. :)
Wisdom and truth are revealed to those who humble themselves, wish we will be among them.
 
It depends on what you mean by dictating and what it is that is being believed. You could say that Paul dictated to the mainly illiterate churches what to believe. The difference being that he taught the Gospel. The catholic and Orthodox Churches were teaching false doctrines. That still goes on in many churches today.

If and when it all becomes confusing...

In Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
(Col 2:3)

For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
(Col 2:9)

We are to embrace HIM..not a denomination. Hopefully the Church or denomination or fellowship (whatever) you happen to associate with is also embracing JESUS.
 
Im sure they do. But some really emphasize what denomination they "belong" to and asked me what I "belong" to, it's quite werid being asked like this.

For some, especially those not born again, a denomination becomes their identity idol.
Our identity idol is the Person of Jesus Christ.
You can make that clear without belittling their idol :)
 

"I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6), and yet there are hundreds of different Christian denominations all professing to follow the same Truth? Paul warned of this; "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ" (Colossians 2:8) Jesus didn't start or name a denomination, and he warned of the traditions of men; "But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men" (Matthew 15:9). We also read where Jesus found 5 of the 7 churches in Revelation to be unacceptable.

When every Tom, Dick, and Harry adds their two cents, you can end up with something new, something altered, or something false. Jesus said; "It is written... Have ye not read?...what saith the scripture?" That's our guide for differentiating the truth from a lie. "They received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so" (Acts 17:11). Opinions are a dime a dozen, as are Christian sects, but we have one example who was and is the Living Word. I personally prefer to put religion on a shelf and follow what he lived and taught. A true Church will teach His word (scriptures), and not create their own books, religious creed, rules, and doctrine.

"For false Christs and false prophets shall rise...But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things" (Mark 13:23-24).
