It's called the atmosphere...wow, did you just purposefully ignore anything taught in science? And another question what denomination are you exactly? Cause this isn't the type of beliefs associated with the more normal ones.
Lol is the atmosphere encapsulated with a solid material (Glass Ceiling Theory)? If it is that would be a possible loophole out of the quandry why there'd be no cataclysmic wind if the earth were spinning 1,000 mph. Also nay, but much of what is taught as science today actually is not science since it cannot be tested or observed, in fact most of what is portrayed as science today is purely theory, is acknowledged as theory, and either cannot be proven or has been flatly disproven (ie: darwinism probably being the most popular example.)

As for denomination, just Christian. Indeed most the denominations in our time have a lack of belief in the Bible, which of course begs the question of; whether or not they are actually Christian or have become their own religion? I suppose though there are enough topics in the Bible Discussion forum about that question though, so we will only focus on the denominations and religions insofar as they deal with the subject at hand.

I just opened this after I saw it had gone to five pages... and, because I was bored this morning.

Could hardly believe what I saw. Are all of you guys really just as bored as I am? My all encompassing reaction to this was..."So?".

here's one example (out of millions) of a group of students' experiment building their own foucault's pendulum:
http://www.osrportal.eu/files/uploads/objects/Report_Example_EN_Foucault.pdf

how "highly innacurate" were their results?

0.0000368%

that foucault's pendulum is "highly innacurate" is an outright lie.
Lol, a quote from your article:

"87. The pendulum is equipped with an electromagnet placed at the center of the disk so it can keep oscillating non-stop. "

So it is admitted that the experiment is rigged. Furthermore the article brings up an interesting point I had not considerred which proves the pendulum a lying sign and wonder. They admit in their premise that in order to accurately find if it is spinning they must observe the movement from something not connected to the earth, admit that the pendulum is conencted to the earth, and then contradict themselves saying it does not matter. This also proves the pendulum cannot detect the spin of the earth whether it would spin or not spin, being connected to the earth.

Now answer my question:

Did Joshua the son of Nun say for the earth to stop spinning or did he say for the sun to stop moving when the Lord delivered the Amorites into his hand?

Joshua 10:12-14

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

[SUP]13 [/SUP]And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

[SUP]14 [/SUP]And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.

Lol why be bored? By all means Willie, come chop it up with us.

The Complacency Argument is a fairly good one, but at the same time very weak. It is strong for no man can make the earth spin nor can they rewrite the Bible. Therefore every attempt to make it appear to spin and be a sphere is futile. It is weak though because if you didn't care you would not have posted. Lol therefore jump on in; question, study, test, and prove.

the bob's motion is independent of the motion of the earth, because it swings freely through air; while the apparatus itself is directly connected to the surface, the plane of the bob's swing is not. if the bob is set into motion with any eccentricity, it will swing with an ellipsoidal motion rather than tracing out a plane. you have to let it go perfectly straight. that effect is measurable, demonstrable, and well-studied.
in order to accomplish planar motion, and in order to counteract atmospheric and mechanical drag friction, a magnetic device both keeps the bob in motion and keeps it steady in a straight line.
details here:
http://fismat.uia.mx/if/foucault/internal/AJP/AJP001004.pdf
this device eliminates precession - it does not introduce it. and yet precession is observed.

because the bob's motion is being forced into a straight line, any deviation observed is due to an outside force.
deviation is observed consistent with rotation of the earth. the error in inferring latitude from observation of the deviation is less than a ten thousandth of a percent. ((highly accurate)).

Did Joshua the son of Nun say for the earth to stop spinning or did he say for the sun to stop moving when the Lord delivered the Amorites into his hand?

if you are on an airplane travelling 631mph 12.627 degrees N by NW, and your child is fidgeting in the seat next to you,
do you say
"sit still!"
or do you say
"travel 631mph 12.627 degrees N by NW without any observable deviation!"
?

there's this little concept called "relative motion" that i would like to introduce to you . . .

Nay for the pendulum is connected to the earth at the top which is connected to a building which is connected to the earth. Furthermore the magnet rigs the experiment. If the earth spun, especially at the extreme speed alleged, momentum alone would be sufficient. Furthermore any margin at error at all proves the experiment is wrong. The Pendulum is a lying sign and wonder because it rigged and because it is admittedly attached to the earth and because it cannot produce consistent and infallible results.

Now I have answered you thrice, and show how you even have proven the pendulum to be fraudulent.

Now you answer my one simple question.

Did Joshua the son of Nun command the earth to stop spinning or did he command the sun to stand still?

Joshua 10:12-14

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

It's a simple question.

Did Joshua say for the earth to stop spinning

Or

Did Joshua say for the sun to stand still?

... and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet.
(Acts 8:28)

the Ethiopan here was moving in some direction at some speed.

why does the scripture describe him as "sitting" (indicating a lack of motion) when he was in fact moving at some speed in some direction?

hmm?

what do you know!? general relativity theory in the Bible!

General Relativity is also a lie and it is not found in the Bible. I suppose it goes without saying its origin is with an infamous atheist.

As for the eunuch, indeed he was sitting. The scripture says he was sitting in his chariot because he was sitting in his chariot.

Now answer my question plainly. Did Joshua command the earth to stop spinning or did he command the sun to stand still?

This is something I found out years ago. Personally I find some of the map errors to be frankly hilarious.

The reason they can't make an accurate map is because they're trying to display the flat earth as a globe, which creates distortions.
Can I have whatever you are having? Seems intense, man!

Getting back to the OP, surely in this digital age someone can come up with a 3D representation of the earth, with a globe that spins on a flat surface.

You could make an app out of it. Not sure if it would have practical application, since most people really don't have a use for an accurate representation of the earth.

Didn't everyone take this stuff about Mercator projections in Junior High? We spent a lot of time going through the various maps and how they were made and their draw backs. Cartography was interesting in university, too, but the course assumed everyone knew these basic facts about the limitations of flat maps.

"What do they teach them in the schools, these days?" The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - C S Lewis.
