The study of Gods Word is very important to the growth of a Christian (2 Tim 3:16). But it can also be done for the wrong reasons.

There are 3 main reasons for the study of Gods Word;
1: so we can grow closer to God.
2: to worship God
3: to glorify God
Yes, we are to study Gods Word so we can learn how to live our lives for Christ. But this should not be our main purpose for study. Our main purpose in study should be to glorify and worship God. God is the creator of everything so thus deserves our worship and glory. Our purpose in life is to glorify God so we should also be studying The Word to glorify Him. If we approach study in a way as to glorify God then we will ultimately end up living our lives for Him. If we approach study with a thought of growing closer to God as a main focus then we will ultimately end up with a self centered reason for studying His Word. Notice the difference between these two reasons for study. Study "for us to grow closer to God" has "us" as the first focus. If we study "to glorify and worship God" then He becomes the first focus.

Yes, study so you can grow closer to God but first and foremost, study to worship and glorify God. Put God first in your study, for God should be first in all you do.

2 Corinthians 8:5 "but they gave themselves first to the Lord".

Yes we are to study the word of God, but i think more importantly, to agree and walk with the new identity set out for us in Christ. When a person actually pursues God as a son/daughter (new identity) He answers. When you put God above everything, and in everything He becomes alive to you, and after a while things become manifest and flow perfectly.
Before i even started reading the bible after i got saved i put my focus on God 100%. I understood that all my sins were put on the cross, and that i was a new creation in Christ, and in this new creation in Christ got a new mindset, i became a son.
Mind you, i didn't read this, study it or learn it from anyone beforehand.. God just gave it to me, I didn't understand what it all was until i read Ephesians 2.6 later on. There are a bunch of other things i had learned this way like, when you draw close to Him he will do the same that's in James 4.8. A person can read scripture all day long, but if they never walk it out, its pointless. It's about a relationship between just you and God, Father to son/daughter... and if you aren't one who likes to sit there reading constantly, he will actually school you himself, like he does with me, half of the time i have to google what is going on, but everything that happens always is in line with scripture.

Jesus Christ give an answer in Matthew4;4, and he says;It is written,Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.;Thanks the Lord for the opportunity to study and meditate, and preach his holy Word.

To worship, glorify, and grow closer to God we don't need a systematic Bible study, but to defend ourselves from false doctrines I think that a thorough study is necessary.

First of all, to not be wrong
Mark 12:24
24 | Jesus said unto them, Is it not for this cause that ye err, that ye know not the scriptures, nor the power of God?

if you pray but you don't know the bible, the scripture, you probably err about every thing,
I mean about what God you are praying, because there are many gods

1Corinthians 8:5
5 | For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth; as there are gods many, and lords many;

the only way to know about God, the only who can save your spirit and all of you, is in the Bible
His will and commandment...

like every spirit, for example, spirits that magician call have their will, and so magician will be engaged and serve them
God also have His will, and everyone who want to serve Him are engaged to do all His will
but it said:

Matthew 11:30
30 | For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Why study God's word? Just read several threads in the BDF, & you'll find dozens of reasons to study. If nothing else, to keep from embarrassing ourselves like others do on here, lol.

But seriously, to have a good relationship with God we must know Him & His will to be able to please Him. To me it's that simple. To love God is to know Him. God's word is who He is.
:)

There are many reasons to study God's Word. The Word of God is our spiritual food.
We need to study the Word of God daily. When I was a young teenager I only read the Bible a little bit. Once I became an adult and grew in my relationship with God I began to understand what God was saying and desired a deeper relationship with the
Lord. The more you study God's Word and seek Him He will reveal more things to you.
Here are 4 things that everyChristian should do.
1. Pray daily
2. Study God's Word (Every Day)
3. Worship
4. Tell everyone that's not born again about Jesus (Evangelism)
Study to show thyself approved 2Timothy 3:16-17
Believers have victory over Satan 1John4:4, Isaiah54:17, Revelations12:11
No condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus Romans8:1-2
God put us on this earth to win Romans8:28, Romans 8:37, 1John5:4-5
If we repent God will forgive us 1John1:9
If we sin we have an advocate with the HeavenlyFather 2John1:1-2
God's Love John3:16-17, Romans 5:8
Assurance of Salvation Romans10:9-10, John1:12-13
Every thing I say is back up with Scriptures. It's time for God's children to
believe God's Word and stop listening to Satan. To God be the glory.
