Now we are all singles trying to make sense of our situation, Right? Well I own a car which was sent to me by God but thats another story and I digress please excuse me, anyway I take the bus and walk to places where I can and I try to only drive my car when its absolutely necessary like of course Work, Bible Study and Service. O.K. to the heart of the matter. I was walking across a parking lot and a young woman drove by and was absolutely looking me up and down with a grin on her face, I think huh, I walk around the mall and store and woman never look at me like that? hmmm well O.K. I keep walking and I start to notice 1 out of every three women "by themselves" would do that, absolutely look me up and down with a half smile or grin? I stand 5'6" 236 pounds a 52 inch chest and a 36" waist, I was a power lifter in my younger days and my chest and legs stayed strong. maybe I look to scary when the women are not in the protection of their car. If they only knew what was in my heart. Scratch that, I have talked to women for the first time and they would look at me with a very curious smile but when I would tell them that I have turned my life over to Jesus they would go "OHHH" and back away. Help Please.

Maybe its just me, but i have no idea what you're getting at or asking help for. Are you asking for help on how to keep women you know nothing about and are probably not Christian from being turned off by announcing to them you devoted to your religion?

Reactions: SeatBelt
Oh Yeah, sorry I guess what I am asking is has anybody else noticed that happening to them.

I notice that the reactions you get when you say "I'm Christian" can be negative....people may tend to back off or think about you differently because of it (Afraid they're gonna say a cuss word and think they have to walk on egg shells around you or something). That's a small price to pay for being a believer so I don't mind.

Hal, when I'm in a conversation with ANYONE new, man or woman, I make the revelation of my faith as organic as possible while still being obvious. You know how women who are spoken for, and they know they're talking to a single man, they are ALWAYS able to organically find a way to mention in the conversation early on that they've a boyfriend (or a husband if she's not displaying a ring)? "Oh, that's a sharp shirt! My boyfriend has the same wardrobe tastes as you!" (This actually amuses me more often than not.) Well, I find this is REALLY easy to do concerning your faith when meeting someone new.

Whenever you meet someone new, and dig into a decent conversation with them...be it at a mutual friend's dinner party, or the person you're trapped next to flying from Dallas to Phoenix, or even the guy sitting next to you at the truck stop as you order up a silly amount of bacon and eggs and biscuits and gravy...the inevitable question ALWAYS comes up once you've traded names...

"So, Shour, what do you do?"

And now you have your opportunity to make your stance on God, Christ, and life VERY clear without being (seemingly) confrontational or (seemingly) angry about it.

"Oh, I do lots of things. I breathe, I sleep, but mostly I'm a musician. I pray a lot, and spend quite a bit of time at church. Very active with my church family, in Bible studies, the praise-and-worship team, potluck lunches, and the like. I hit the gym often, sometimes I hike. But I suspect you're asking about my day job, which is really only a small part of my identity. I'm a middle school teacher, and I get kids to make loud noises. Sometimes if they do it in a coordinated manner, it resembles music. So, that's what I do. All those things, and more. What about you, Hal, what do you do?"

What I've done with this quick blurb is make my faith both obvious and a priority by emphasizing it longer than all of my hobbies or pastimes (which are glazed over), and my job, which is usually what someone really wants to know, is de-emphasized by a bit of self-deprecating humor. My new friend now knows that I have a religious background that is a priority, but if that makes them uncomfortable, they don't feel shut down because they have been given other avenues of conversation. Sometimes you meet a fellow Jesus freak this way. "Oh wow, where do you worship!" That's always nice. Sometimes you get non-believer's curiosity, which can often lead to some very insightful conversation. "Oh, uh, you read the Bible? You know, I've always wondered something..." And sometimes, they ignore the bait altogether. *shrug*

And if the revelation that you're a so-called religious nut is offensive to them to the point that they don't want to talk to you any longer, make sure you bless them (sincerely) as they depart, and say a prayer for them next time you're alone with God. Even Christ instructed his disciples that they would have to just shake the dust from their clothes and think no further on it. He who is ABLE to hear...let him hear. ^_^

Hard for me to say, with this beard i get looks from all types of people =P

Hal, I'm still not sure if you are asking if we've all noticed how many ladies are checking you out or If you're asking if we've all noticed how many ladies are checking you out. Either way, I've not noticed how many ladies are checking you out, so I'm awfully glad that you've pointed out to me how many ladies are checking you out. I'm glad to know that it is a problem for you, unless it's more appropriate to be sorry to hear that it is a problem for you.
;)

I totally thought this was gonna be a 'crazy women drivers' thread. :)
(I prolly shouldn't be allowed to drive a shopping cart ;) )

Hal--forget about ladies in cars.
Fix your eyes on Jesus, instead. ♥

I can definitely think of worse problems to have. :p

Ugly,
Just to show what the braid could look like:

I think you could rock it.

Goodness, that beard weaving is criminal. Viking-style beards are great though.

I'm sure you don't look scary. In fact, you sound really cool! I'm sure the women staring can probably tell you used to lift and are probably just intrigued but don't know how to properly put it into words or ask you about it without sounding rude/creepy. I mean think about it, it would be kind of weird to go up to a stranger and say something like "hey, I'm checking out your body. What's up with that?" haha.
