As marriage continues to rapidly decline and the ability of government to continuing supporting tens of millions of single-mothers and their children is materially decreased due to rapidly escalating interest expenditures on rapidly escalating government debt, it will be interesting to see what happens.
Shaming men into accepting the severe legal liabilities under what has become the most anti-male institution in Western Civilization (e.g. marriage) has obviously failed to work. Men are in full retreat from courtship and marriage.
So, I wonder if the government's next attempt will be to tax males with a "bachelor tax" like ancient Rome tried when they found themselves in exactly the same situation we'll be in twenty years if current trends hold. That tax failed, btw. Of course, Rome "fell" as it's commonly stated.
With respect to homosexuals marrying and divorcing, we have to wait to see what statistics are compiled over ten and then twenty years. My prediction is that the number of homosexuals getting married, per capita, will spike in the years immediately ahead and then rapidly decline with those that do marry experiencing a high divorce rate... something that isn't surprising given their propensity for multiple partners.
I expect the latter fact will spur talk of legalizing group marriage.
