We are easily deceived if we are not grounded in the Scriptures. You could be lying and you could be telling the Truth as you see it.

I still say you should have at least given this some thought that it might not be God talking to you. Why would God only give you his name? What good would that do? Was God trying to impress this person with your ability to know his name?

Or could it be Satan was behind this in trying to deceive both of you?

In the Scriptures when God spoke to people they knew instantly it was God! That is why i question this story.

The question i would be asking myself is
'why would a man who i have never even seen before in my entire life come up to me and ask me if i know his name?'

You were on holiday, and you didn't share the gospel with him, and it doesn't sound like you two even mentioned God at all when you talked. So i don't know why you would think it might be a '
word of knowledge.'
The Spirit doesn't seem to me to have '
meaningless polite small talk with strangers' as part of His agenda.
The way you describe this it doesn't sound like you were in the spirit or being led by the Spirit at all, & i don't think that God just sort of spreads out meaningless supernatural power at random.

Do you believe in any form of telepathy?
In shamanism?
What if the man himself was projecting that name into your mind, and asking you to confirm if he really did have power over you or not?
What if he was a sorcerer & just kind of sized you up a bit?

Because i would start wondering if the power was a different spirit.
What was your spiritual life like at the time? Would you have even been able to answer that question 10 years ago, or even now?

Yes indeed! It is strange for a strange man to come up to you and ask such a question out of the blue. But I have been to Africa quite a few times and people there are different than here.

If you just go out the hotel, your never alone. There's always someone who will approach you to sell, talk, etc. Its a different culture mentally. If they see you are a toerist you can have a lot of people surround you, because they all want to talk to you.

This happend 10 years ago and just today I was thinking about it again and I asked myself the question what would have happend if I had gave his name.... I never thought about it this way. And at that time I did not find it strange the way he approached me. I did not think much of it. But hearing his name in my mind was was a strange experience (I was 18 at that time) Now im older I think it was a bit strange question to ask someone you do not know.

As a child I asked Jesus to come in my heart.
But I feel I was a baby Christian for a long time. A few years ago I really started growing in Christ. He was renewing my mind and transforming me. So my faith is now much much deeper and stronger. But I know God has been always with me. I have an active prayer life. And I have a relationship with the Lord.

I do not believe he projected something in my mind, altrough it is strange for someone to ask that question. Im a firm believer in discerment and I am not sure what this was.

I once told a friend about this and she said it was a word of knowledge. But i am not for sure.

Its funny because its like the Lord is trying to make it clear to me that I hear Him. Even in the example of this thread, the OP can see that experience as a testimony to hearing from the Lord. In my own experience I have found the greatest fellowship with the Holy Spirit to be through tongues and interpretation, and so for me it is easier to do that than to simply quiet myself and listen for Him.

So, quite often people speak of hearing the Lord, I have felt that I haven't honed that down perfectly yet. However, in little examples like the OP, the Lord is like, "You do hear me, son." For example, in a board game you have to roll dice, two actually. VVell, in my mind I actually saw what the dice would be multiple times in a row. I would roll and see the exact number that was in my mind. It was like the Lord was revealing to me that I hear Him. Just now in thinking of it, I just realized its also referring to the prophetic. I knew before it happened, by revelation of the Holy Spirit.

Anyways, the Lord is preparing all of us and He trains us. He gives us the encouragement and exhortation that we need to walk out who He has created us to be.[/QUOTE

Well you know (in case you didnt) Im always that one person that learns the hard way lol! So most of the time God sends me in blindly and on my way shows me and teaches me and recalls to me what hes taught me and after I see that what I did was right Im like YAY HALLELUJAH! When you work in the prophetic its very important to remember to test the spirits at times as you do feel a bit overly secure at times

It's the kind of thing a 'head' at a rainbow gathering might do.

To see if a person had 'ears' or was 'tuned in' or not.
((projecting a thought and then checking to see if it was received))

People are wonderfully created, and there are many powers and many spirits.

i think that there is an awful lot of abuse and misunderstanding of what the 'word of knowledge' the scripture talks about really is. People are not only wonderfully and fearfully made, but easily deceived, and those in the world are always looking for sensationalism. i wonder, myself, how much of those kinds of movements are sorcery, and what is really from God -- because the Book says that the beast will perform signs & wonders to deceive and lead people astray, and i've heard that a lot of the people leading these kinds of movements turn out to be quietly leading very wicked lives in the background, while they gain fame and fortune and popularity with their sensational messages.

((this is kind of an 'aside' -- not really about your experience -- but to be careful, and test everything :) -- not everything 'spiritual' is from God, and not everything with power is from Him either, nor every sign or wonder, right?))

As we mature in our faith, we become more sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leadership. I often use this example.

My normal commute to and from work covered 60 miles. I would pass several people each day who were asking for food, work, a drink, or a ride. Most of the time, I continued past them and didn't even think about it. Occasionally, I would pass by one and the Holy Spirit wouldn't let me continue until I stopped to talk the one waiting. Every time, I had the resources to meet the need of the one waiting. I don't travel much today, but occasionally the Holy Spirit gets me to drive to the store. When he does, there is always someone to help on the trip.

Angelique, you answered the Holy Spirit's guidance by taking the time to talk. The Holy Spirit confirmed his guidance when the person told you his name. Listen to that voice, let the Holy Spirit lead you. The more you listen, the more often He will use you.

I agree concerning the people you passsed on the road, this used to happen to me a lot, some I would pass without another thought, but some the Holy Spirit would tug at me, and everytime they turned out to be Christian, however, I URGE ANYONE READING THIS TO KNOW THAT THEY KNOW THAT IT IS THE SPIRIT BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO HELP ANYONE, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS NOWDAYS.

what is a word of knowledge for?

no purpose to this that I can see

I have had things pop into my head that are true and I had no way of knowing...don't think they were words of knowledge though

some people are just naturally more sensitive than others and there is always the chance it was a different spirit

everything supernatural does not mean it was God even for Christians

I would ask, what was the purpose? did it serve a purpose? sure, you are thinking of it 10 yrs later...but to what purpose?

here's one and it's true

years ago, while a teenager, I was at the sink doing the family dinner dishes (chores) and my brother was at the table doing his homework. I was thinking of asking him something and as I turned to ask it, he, without looking at me, answered the question that I NEVER asked.

of course at that point, he turned around with big eyes and I stared back...and somehow, there was a transference of my thoughts to him. I have other stories like that.

do I think that was some special moment with God's stamp on it? no I do not. do I think God knew? Yes I do

my answer, is simply to pray that nothing that is not of God would work through or around me...cause believe me, I have stories a-plenty but I don't go around thinking it is a special anointing or God...I think that some people just have a natural affinity for that sort of thing....

if there is no purpose to it, then I don't see it as a word of knowledge

is it something out of the ordinary? maybe for some and maybe not for others

the other day my husband was saying something and looking for a word and I supplied it...he was surprised, but being my husband he should be used to it LOL!

this is one reason why, when I see all these threads on the supernatural and dreams and visions and prophecy, I really just kind of take them with a grain of salt

because I have had so much of this kind of stuff in my life, I have asked God to just stop it. don't want dreams, visions or special events...just the reality of knowing Him and if He wants me to know anything else or if I need to know, then so be it

but far too many folk want supernatural

I caution against it, but go ahead...you will get what you want

HOw could she know if it was pointless or not, since she did not speak it out?

True, but today when people hear worship they think and look for music, they find their gift and they are handed a bottle of water or weekly bulletin or put on a smile and say hello, they hear serve and hand out groceries or mow a yard.

The church has failed in one major area in the last 20-30 years and that is teaching people how to discern and hear the voice of God for themselves and how to be led by the Holy Spirit.

What revelation and vocal gifts have you operated in? If there are no gifts operating in you, do you simply preach and teach the word of God? Do you work as a Prophet or is your Romans 12 gifting prophecy and exhortation?

The Holy Spirit will never use someone unless he has shed the love of God abroad in their heart, they are obedient and they know without question the voice they are listening to.

Being used and led by the Spirit is made manifest through intimacy & Obedience with the Holy Spirit and love as your sole motive.

God has been using me in a few areas in a few vocal gifts to be honest. Sometimes to edify me, sometimes to edify the church..Sometimes to decern for deliverance, sometiemes to build up.. sometimes personal or open rophesy, sometimes warnings.. said it all lol

. . . actually the teacher says 'everything is meaningless'

((re: Ecclesiastes))

;)
Solomon is not the teacher ;):D:) Besides, not even Solomon would say that the things of God are meaningless, would he? When he said all was vanity, was he not referring to worldly things aside from God? He who was made wise but turned away from the wisdom of God. No wonder all struck him as such :D

I commend you for obedience to the Holy Spirit at 16 and appreciate your candid reply.

I would urge you to use wisdom and caution in throwing around the term prophetic without careless thought. That term can and does mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people and not all of them are going to be indulgent towards your use of the term at 16 YOA. If you are being used and recognized let God approve and validate you without using the term.

I'm curious about the warnings. VVere the warnings basically telling them the consequences of their actions, naturally, if they did not repent?

Well one warning was that both kingdoms are going and building up more and more and they must decern more and stop serving themselves but to start serving God. That the pride must stop and that they have to open their eyes around themselves and that God will start exposing and brings awakening in the church to see who are the true sheep and who are the wolves in sheep clothing. To be honest they havent yet repented but God is being patient. And slowly he is moving more and more exposing the evil that has infiltrated their community and especially their minds. And soon there will be a fight but I dont want to go much deeper because theres enough people here who will rebuke me due to my age. God bless! Be cautious and Test the spirits says the Lord for he is coming soon!

Hi,

This happend to me over 10 years ago and I still wonder what it was.

I was on a holiday in Africa and a out of the blue a african man came up to me and asked me if I knew his name. I did not know this man, but I heard the word "backery" in my mind. It was very clear voice and not my own thinking voice.

I told the man I did not know his name. (I did not know the man) He than said to me his name was "backery" The same name I heard in my mind!!!

Than we talked a little bit about my holiday in Africa (for me it was to be polite) and I went my way and he went his way.

Now more than 10 years have past and I still did not forget this. A friend of mine told me this is a word of knowledge, but I wonder If it was. Because what happened had no meaning at all. What do you think it was?
I never had something like this happened before

God is no longer bringing any new revelations called prophecy. We have the whole or perfect word with no laws missing by which we could know him more intimately.

Either he lied or Satan who is still bringing lying signs and wonders through false prophecy took advantage of an opportunity to try and lead you away from Christ. .

I would suggest you believe not, chalk it up as experience and hope you do not run into any more.

I always ask. What's the numbers for the lottery?

I see what you mean but let me tell ya something brother :) I am thankful that you are telling me to be cautious and I am. I am always glad when people try to keep me awake but theres something I got to say about the age part. I had to grow up fast due to abusive and occult circumstances and God has called me into his ministry sience I was 14. God clearly states in his word in Acts:2:17 and Joel 2:28
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

And also 1 Timothy 4:12
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

I will keep on doing what the Holy Spirit tells me to do no matter how much people pick on my age. In the end Christ was hated first and I will keep putting on my armour and set seeds. I may never know if the people who rebuke me may not have their eyes opened in the closet. The people who truly care and want to hear from God do not go by age but by if it is scriptual and true or not. Test the spirits at all times :) And pray without ceasing in the supplication of the spirit and utterance :) What I do isnt unscriptual. God bless

Who Judged this warning as Prophetic and a Prophetic Warning when you gave it?

I dont care when you were called and I could care less about your age. I know that the Spirit works through people your age, and that is not in dispute. I care about the sending into your call. Jesus was called before the foundation of the world and sent at 30. Joseph was called at 17 and sent into his call at 30. The disciples were called in year 1 and sent in year 3. God still has process to promotion and the chip on your shoulder about your age, your call and the reason why for your rapid call might work for the local pastor, but for some us it won't. Your rapid assumption that people automatically are rejecting your for your age is your weakness. If God did call and is preparing to send you into prophetic ministry, then stop defending your age, when you were called and why your involvement in the occult and abuse propelled you into your call and trust him to let others see him working in you the way you tell people.

I dont know you and you dont me. That said, I do not doubt anything about your call nor feel threatened about your age or the need to rebuke you for anything. I never said anything you do is not scriptural. You did.

I have seen a few young people with a serious call on their life, especially those coming out of the pagan and satanic occult world. Most drop the attitude you are carrying and will be to your detriment if you continue parading it around.

Defending yourself using scripture is silly and not spiritually mature every time someone challenges you. Challenges by people sent into ministry and that have paid the price should be met with joy and a desire to learn from them, not with a chip on your shoulder and wrapping yourself in scripture attempting to justify your call.

There is order and levels of authority in the occult world, and the kingdom is no different. I am not rebuking you or questioning the call. I am asking intentionally loaded questions that so far yielded that you have work to do in the Fruit of the Spirit as we all do.

Lower the defenses girl, some might be trying to help you that have been there done that and have walked in similar or identical gifting for years.

A few people did.

As you typed it, it comes back as a very strong exhortation, as far as prophetic, I cannot comment because I was not there to hear it and don't know the circumstances for which it was given. Nothing you said is wrong, it lines up with the Word, and to be honest it something we already know. So in that regard, alone it might not be as prophetic as you like or intend it to be, but it is a exhortation, that lines up with the Word and passes the EEC test found in 1 Cor 14.
