Hi guys :D

First let me introduce myself, my screen name as you can tell is Forgiven83 and I am Australian. I have a fabulous husband who will have been married to me five years next friday (yay!) and we're both born again christians who love our God with all our hearts and enjoy a life that is beyond anything we could have imagined!

I work for a government department here in Australia, one that is not the most easiest job in the world, and certainly a job that is a high stress job. I have trained and studied for the position for years, and this year got my dream (praise God!) I am working really hard to be an example to my workmates, as I believe Christians in this job are the minority....whether that comes with the content of the job or not, I'm not sure. I do know that I want to shine the light of Jesus into everything I do, and show my workmates what real living christianity is all about.

In that spirit, I was wondering, does anyone here know how I can avoid getting "adult" email forwards at work? Or at least set myself apart from them somehow? We all love a good joke, and most of them are totally ok, but sometimes I get an email that I would rather avoid, and I dont know its an email like that until I open it....and I wanted to somehow get across to others to please keep it clean, but in the process I dont want to distance myself from my workmates or make them think that I'm being exclusionary or a "prude" because I'm a christian....its a dilemma I have been trying to figure out for a while and I wondered whether anyone had any advice? I want to be able to enter into the fun of my workplace (and it IS kept pretty fun, cos it has to be since its such a high stress job and all) but I dont want bad images and words emblazoned on my mind when I go home either.

Any advice gratefully recieved!

I think you should just politely ask them not to send them to you..I think most would have a great respect for you being open and honest about it.. Just tell them you would much rather not receive those types os jokes with adult content.

Um yeah I think so....u think I should bring it up with them maybe?

Yeah I know I need to address this somehow.....but I dont want to exclude myself from the jokes that ARE appropriate, because they do serve to bond us I spose, being able to share in a private joke amongst the team. There are just some that are a little TOO R rated!

I agree that you should reply simply and kindly ask not to have emails of this nature forwarded to you, it doesn't have to make you a prude, I am sure many non-Christians would also have similar feelings about not wanting to see that sort of rubbish.
Joking is a hard thing to tell people they when have gone to far, it is a common thing on my conscience as an adolescent male, but you've gotta speak up about what you honestly think anyway.
Often I feel Christians are too scared to be honest and run with their consciences. It's unfair for your relationship with your co-workers for you to be dishonest about what you think and feel. And I do believe people will respect you for standing up for what you believe as long as you are following your convictions.

Hi there,

I too agree. It is difficult.
But I think that you should just send a mass email just saying that though you are a Christian, you do have a sense of humour but would appreciate it if they didn't forward on the inappropriate jokes. Just say what you find inappropriate, that way they'll be aware on what you classify as appropriate and inappropriate.

Just an idea.

First of all, it is shocking to me that adult jokes can be forwarded throught a company e-mail. I don't work for the governement, but alls that we can use work e-mail for is actual work. But regardless, I don't think there is a simple answer here. When you tell a non-Christian not to forwarn inappropriate jokes to you..they really do not know what that means. To them all the jokes are ok.

Good, since you have an HR dept. where you work just ask them to send an administrative email to all company employees concerning lewd content. HAve them explain what that means and make sure they include the disciplinary actions that would be incurred as well. This takes the monkey off your back and keeps you anonymous.
