Hi Pilgrimshope, I think what you are trying to say is that, as Christians, we should not stop short at the point when we repented of our sins and accepted Christ into our lives. After we have received this grace, we, as genuine believers, need to bear fruits of our Salvation.

I could not agree with you more.

As Christians, after we have received this grace, we need to continue to grow in grace.

I recently came across an article that says "everyone knows theology", meaning everyone has an understanding of God. But not everyone who knows theology, possesses sound or good theology. It struck me that growth as a Christian is important, otherwise we could be practicing and imparting bad theology to others.
yes amen . Jesus used often the imagery of plants in a garden and uses that to give us understanding like what you are expressing. It’s like water and light is to a plant when we are in the gospel and by it we grow and bear fruit

grace is a wonderful thing as it was for Noah but Noah still was required to believe what God was saying to him about the coming flood d the way to be saved from it

faith is I believe where you are speaking

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I think it’s so very important for us to distinguish between the word that bears this fruit

“For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭7:5-6‬ ‭

We can hear “ do not kill “ and it’s not going to produce one once of faith , but when you hear this it creates saving faith and draws you close , gives you a reason to look to him more , to hear what he has to say and let it in

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

this is an invite to Place our trust in his word . We can be told to stone the other sinners like the ot but it’s not going to produce any faith . But if we come to Jesus and the gospel it’s offering us something to believe in and hope for something to focus on and pursue earth yes just ahead reaching up like plants or trees toward the light

we need the faith Jesus spoke into the world for us because he is the gardener

Hi Nebuchadnezzer,

I think you are saying that you disagree with the doctrine of original sin. I would caution you to not reference Ezekiel 18:19-20 to support your view as this is a case of bad theology.

Please see the link below.

Thank you for your cautioning.

And I would caution you don't blot out Ezekiel 18:19-20 from your bible?
Let's face facts, Ezekiel 18:19-20 is in the bible. So deal with it!

But you attempt to use John Samson and R.C. Sproul to take Ekekiel 18:19-20 out of my hands. You are saying, 'No, no, no, you aren't allowed to use these verses in that way because it doesn't fit with our man-made doctrines.'

You don't want to deal with Ezekiel 18:19-20 so instead you attempt to cover it over with the words of John Samson who fortifies his words with R.C. Sproul.

So I caution you do not put the words of John Samson and the words of R.C. Sproul above and before the words of Ezekiel 18:19-20.

Baptists baptize persons only after they make a personal confession of their faith in Christ. Baptists do not believe that a loving God condemns anyone for a sin they did not commit. Baptists do not view baptism as a remedy for original sin.

Hi Nebuchadnezzer,

I do not disagree with you that Ezekiel is part of the bible. All I am suggesting is that you are taking Ezekiel 18:19-20 out of context to support your view.

If you disagree with the doctrine of Original Sin, then do you have other references in the bible which support your view? You can start another thread to support this discussion as I forsee it to be a lengthy one.

Furthermore, if you disagree with the doctrine of Original Sin, how do you reconcile the verses in Psalm 51:5, which says

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. - ESV

and

Rom 5:12-14
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. - ESV

In the passage of Romans, Paul is saying that when Moses had not given the law, there could have been no transgression of the law since it had not been given before the time of Moses, yet death reigned from Adam to Moses. Why?

Why did death reign from Adam to Moses? It is because it says in the earlier part of the passage that through one man, sin entered the world, and the consequence of sin is death. The consequences of sin are inescapable and not exclusive to only Adam and Eve, but it applies to mankind as a whole.

I'm amazed that you would take the time to explain what is so utterly obvious. To eradicate Original Sin, the Adamic Curse, the Sinful Nature, or whatever we would like to call it, is to show absolutely no comprehension for the Purpose of Christ. Again, you amaze me. Props to you.

Ephesians 2:1-3
2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

Doesn't say we were dead in Adam's sins and transgressions. Doesn't say we were dead in the worlds's sins and transgressions, it says we were dead in our own sins and transgressions.

We followed the world and did as the world, but we were dead because of our own sins - not their sins.
