Hey...

I have a Windows 10 workstation, with a dual-boot to Centos 8, that I purchased from Velocity Micro (for $3,922) last August and that just returned home from repairs to its cooling unit. It was working fine before sent this monstrosity cross-country to VM in VA.

This past Friday I hooked it up and now it won't even boot up properly. I must do a hard shut down just to turn it off.

I had a much older MacPro tower that also has a Windows 10 installation, and it too was working quite well as a back-up -- also until this past Friday.

The Lord may be doing something here, but I'm not entirely sure what that is. I need prayer people. I cannot see this company keeping me on if I cannot get my machines to work, and I cannot just throw 4 grand at another machine.

Thank you!

When I have had these troubles beyond what I was able to figure out for myself I have brought my device into a repair shop. He is a young guy, he knows his stuff and and is trustworthy, maybe you can ask around for some local repair shops.

Then there is always the Geek Squad at Best Buy.

Praying it works out for you. I know how stressful it can be when these things happen.

Thank you. 'Preciate it. I contacted two techies in the Mesa area who had 5-star ratings on Yelp, but neither was much help. I have thought of the Geek Squad, but I'm going to wait to see what the manufacturer says first.

Another thing connected to this: I am fighting thoughts of fear, doubt, mistrust and anger towards God. I want to be like Abraham who was not even willing to spare his own son. But, I am not even close.

Thank you. But, He also allows great pain and want. I speak from experience. I don't know what to expect here.

I am always reluctant to offer advice but even as a woman I had that pressure to perform for God, then I realized through someone one here actually, that the key is to rest in His Grace, cease the striving. Full Stop! Period.

"My son, my son why are you striving, you can't add one thing to what has been done for you." (Keith Green the one and only)

Don't fall into the performance hole, you will always feel horrible and never feel good enough.

It is done!
Amen

I know... but I've been homeless. I ate, paid my bills, still had a car -- everything but a place to pay rent for.

I used to stand on this constantly, and it seemed I was never let down. Then came 2017, 2018 and 2019... a time I do not wish to ever live through again. But... it's not my will that matters, right? This is my inner tug-o-war.

I appreciate your words. But... if I do not work to fight my sinful nature, I will succumb to it.

How Abraham did what he did is beyond me.

When you drive a vehicle it can be easy to veer towrds distractions on the road, focussing on your flesh, being "sin conscious" just feeds the flesh, the focus needs to be on your new nature in Christ.
That is where you find victory. imho

Alright.. but the 'old man' is still going to make noise. He cannot be ignored. One way or the other, I will be confronted by him every day.

If I were in your position, I wouldn't risk losing my job and would go ahead and buy the new computer on credit card if I need to. However, I would make sure the old computer is no longer working. Once you start repairing computers there are generally going to be ongoing issues.

I may do that. I just hate the idea of laying out another $4G. I am going to see what my employer says and what the manufacturer says tomorrow.

Check your cables and connectors. One may be pinched or loose.

Are both of your computers not working?

Both my Win 10 boxes are not working. They both fell around the same time. I am being tested.

My primary one is now in a shop. I pray it comes back in proper working condition.

Were they dropped, or did they just stop working?

Have you checked your network interface?

Did you try to boot in safe mode? On my PCs its accessed by pressing f2 on power up.

Did you make an emergency boot disc for your PC? My virus software also includes a power up disc.

Did you ship to shop? If so did you pack it in it's original box?

To the best of my knowledge, the newer machine was not handled poorly. The latter just sits all day. It has a great life. But, it is also 12 years old, the GTX Titan X inside of it is about 7 years old.

I have not checked my network interface.

I have tried the Safe Mode route. For 5 hours yesterday, my machine behaved beautifully. I thought it was over. But, when I came back to my box after a break, it was down.

I do have a disc image saved, it's ~2 months old, but good enough. However, the IT guy I left it with yesterday (I decided to take it to a local shop) recommended against that, saying I don't that that is not when the corruption started. But... isn't that what backup images are for??

I am not shipping anything to Velocity Micro again.

Back up images are for recovery after your PC is working. Most of the time they are data files. You still need to boot your PC before recovering data files.

I tend to believe that you may have a virus. Many shops unknowingly install them. Let's see what your new shop finds. Let me know how things work out.

I've prayed for God to help me fix PCs many times. He always came through. I pray that he will come through for you.

I got a feeling that this is a virus thingy going around.
Wife is having software issues today too logging into her VPN and work network. She had to do a hard reboot to get anything done today. The whole thing froze up. "Ctrl, alt, del" type reboot so she could join a meeting online.

You know how these viruses go....waves.

The repair guy thinks it's a motherboard problem.
