Interest in God's word is a good thing; however, I'm not sure YouVersion is the way to go. It was created by Bobby Gruenewald and Life.Church (Craig Groeschel's organization based in OKC). It's sponsored by billionaire Hobby Lobby founder David Green.
All you have to do is follow the money. One of the companies that falls under the umbrella of Hobby Lobby is Mardel Christian & Education stores. It's founder and CEO, Mart Green, is David Green's son. Mart has also started a ministry called IllumiNations, which ostensibly is an organization designed to get Bibles into every language on the planet. Sounds great; but he also wants to get all Bible translators under the same roof (his) so Bible intellectual property rights can be more easily controlled. In other words, more money can be made off of Bible copyrights.
In this disgusting interview he can be seen and heard describing his plan.
Craig Groschel, David Green and Mart Green are primarily in the business of getting rich off the gospel. Groschel cranks out book after book. I tried reading one of them once but couldn't finish it. He's more of a self-help guru than a minister of the gospel. Steven Furtick is a frequent guest on his programs.
Pretty soon the Bible may be available in every language on the planet, but just know you'll have to pay Mart Green to get it.
