Just a question, I ponder many things throughout the day... I appreciate everyone's honesty in the poll.. as it stands now

3 say it's attention seeking
1 says whatever
2 find it charming (1 being me)

This indicates to me so far that the majority frowns on such attention seeking behavior/delusional...
I fear people would expect/demand the individual to conform to today's normal standards.... if not by direct comment, then by treating the people as if they are in the wrong or simply rejecting them based on their clothing with the assumption they are doing something foolish or inappropriate..

I'm one of the 2 that find it charming... because honestly I do not mind if someone is enamored to a certain time period. Why is it any different than someone who over dresses when going places or under dresses.

I've let my daughter wear her fairy costume to the store ... I know she's a child and people will say that is different but honestly if I paid 40 dollars for her fairy dress, she's going to wear it outside to play in the mud, to the park, to the store, to the museum and wherever she wanted until it no longer fit.

Jesus wore a tunic... if someone wanted to wear a tunic ... so be it. It is unfortunate that people naturally consider a person attention seeking/delusional if they dress and behave like someone awkwardly stuck in time.

I wonder if Jesus will be dressed appropriate to the day and times when he returns. What if he's not wearing sunglasses when it's sunny... or hasn't an umbrella when it's raining.... oh my .. what if he's standing on a hover board .. lol ..

Dude gets locked up for pretending to be Jesus, but it's really Jesus. I honestly hope that it is very clear when Jesus DOES come back .. that it's really him for that group of people (and I'm sure there are many) that expects him to conform to this world's standards.

A lot of presumptions and judgment about a lot of people based off of a silly internet pole. Not to mention reaching. Trying to put Jesus in the same boat as people actively living in a modern culture of their time. Such a stretch.
Really, your comments and opinions are about as equally valid, or less, than those that you are so quick to put down and make assumptions about.

Well, I think I would first want to find out why they were doing this? Being human, difference always stands out, and noticing this difference can be good. Like someone walking into a bank with a ski mask on. I would definitely like to get to know this person. It could be delusional. Or they could be making a social statement. Or maybe for fun? I see people of different cultures that wear different types of clothing then me. There are Amish, Mennonites, Muslim's, Indian people from India. We will know when Jesus returns, so it really won't matter what he's wearing or what is going on, he's Jesus.

I answered on the poll as Whatever, because I'm married and didn't think it really mattered, but hypothetically speaking I wouldn't necessarily say that someone who wears a Civil War Uniform all the time is crazy and longing for attention, I might wonder why that person choose to wear that uniform every day. I'd be lying if I said I'd be comfortable dating someone who say wear's a Star Trek uniform all the time.

My Daughter wear's costumes out sometimes. She's a little girl, I don't think when she's 16 she'll want to dress like Cinderella all the time. When she was in pre-school she work a princess dress almost every time she went. No one even blinked an eye about that, she wasn't the only one who did that either. But these are little kids, I would find it odd if my Husband wanted to wear a Disney Prince outfit when he went to work. I'm not saying we all have to conform to any standard. Heck if I had my way I'd dress like the Princess I am, but you know it's kind of hard to do house work and stuff in one of those dresses. lol.

I wouldn't think it would be all that comfortable to wear a civil war uniform or a Knight costume every day either. I couldn't imagine walking around in a Civil War era dress all the time. I see Muslim women in the summer with all their dress on and I feel bad for them, they must be terribly hot.

I am sorry if you felt put down at any point Ugly. This was not my intention. I actually feel put down more than you realize because I am quite different than most people I know. I dress differently, I act differently, I think differently, I live differently... not worse or better... just different.

I like to think Christians are far more accepting and loving than worldly people.. lately, it appears there's more love, care, and acceptance in the world than there is within the Body of Christ. Though this poll may be silly or I may appear to be quick to put down or make assumptions about people I know nothing of... consider this has nothing to do with me or my silly poll and more to do with a need for people to continually check themselves ..

We ALL fall short of the Glory of God. I have already prayed about what you've said Ugly.. maybe there's something in me that's gone astray or wrong... I would like to think people would be more pleased to find areas they need to improve in themselves rather than being defensive but again, I'm quite a different person next to people I know.

For the record also. People constantly make comments about how I dress. I have not bought myself outer clothing since 2003 when I was getting married, I bought $200.00 worth new clothes for a job. The clothing I get, I pick up from food pantries or charity shops and I often wear men's clothing...because it's what is donated more often in my size. My clothing is stained, worn, and doesn't fit me very well... but it's clothing just the same.

I wondered how much more flack I'd catch if I wore stuff from the 1800's since i already know how people treat me dressed up in my 80s clothes - those that still fit.

This made me think of a girl I worked with .. she dressed very conservatively... like she was in the 50s and her hair was always in that look... blond with the swirl curl...bright red lipstick... very quite girl, rarely stood out except her dress and appearance .. she wore 50s poke-a-dot dresses and when she wore jeans she always cuffed them up high and had a shirt with a knot in it..
She looked like Lucille Ball, or like she stepped outta Grease. Every day she dressed this way. Every day.

upon second thought:

i think accepting people for who they are, and the life choices they make can be far more risky (and important) than accepting someone who wants to wear period clothing all the time.

to me, that's the question i am more interested in asking.

can you love and accept someone who doesn't want to follow every conventional expectation? should you expect to be loved in spite of yours?

how tied are you to conform and follow social, cultural, even church-culture expectations?

i think we all feel like we don't fit in on some level. i've experienced it plenty in my life, and still feel that way today in some ways. all of my friends are talking about their kids and their retirement plans. i'm far more interested in what inspires me, motivates me, teaches me, and frankly, excites me. i cannot conceive of a life that follows very conventional lines.

we all live in some layer of isolation, even coupled people. some of us choose to follow our muse, some don't. but there is always a price for being ourselves and that is usually acceptance on some level. i have learned to accept that a long time ago.

as to your question, if you asked "would you accept someone whose personal style is more eccentric or even non-existent?" my answer would be different.

but what you actually asked in my mind paints a picture of someone who spends their resources to construct an exterior that will obviously garner attention and says more about the priority they place on such a thing. THAT is what i object to. i don't simply don't think i'd have any lasting compatibility with someone who placed that kind of effort into achieving such a goal.

as to relating it to yourself, what you've described is nothing like this question. of course, we should all be acceptable regardless of what you wear. i have plenty of mens's t's and tanks and find them rather comfortable for lounging and working in.

you are lovely and acceptable regardless of what you choose to wear, because you are a beloved daughter of God, not because of what you're wearing.

when i was younger, i needed to express my rebellion through my appearance and did so with impunity. i finished my degree at a baptist college and was told that i could neither wear my nose ring nor my pink hair, and many other personal style choices were flatly unwelcome. i definitely stood out, among the sea of denim jumpers. i'm sure many saw me as rebellious, and they were right, i was.

at the end of the day, women, in particular can choose to dress for many things in mind. to impress, to create attention, to create a spectacle or to inspire lust -- and we can't pretend that thought doesn't go into our choices. extensive effort to generate attention speaks to me as someone who feels insecure and needy. someone who is begging for it, actually.

dressing different is a far cry from period costumes 24/7. : )

What I mean by this is:

Would you date someone that dresses in .... clothing from another time... like re-enactment middle ages, Renaissance... or other time period.

I'm talking about someone that goes about everyday never stepping out of character... speech, behavior, and mannerisms are of that time era.

Obviously, the person WILL stand out amongst today's backdrop. How would you feel about that... if everything else were in order-- kindness, Christianity, etc...

Would you try to change the person or would you endure it and possibly also start dressing out of this time.

I think a good example of what I am referring to is the Main Character from Sleepy Hallow, Ichabod Crane awakes after 250 years ... and refuses to update his clothing
