I work for a big retail pharmacy as a tech/clerk. I started last week and I really like it. The people are pretty nice, and there's some room for job growth. I started training on a computer doing simulations, learning to read labels, what my job function is, etc.

The store isn't in a good part of town. There are lots of flood lights, lots of homeless people, lots of drugs (the illicit kind), and I found out that my station is the most dangerous in the store. So part of my training today was learning to handle a robbery. The very bad actor on the screen told me to give the robber any money or drugs they wanted because my life is more important than a monetary hit to the store. The actress leaned into the camera and nodded her head as if she was truly concerned about my well being. Dude! If some guy pulls a gun or knife on me, demands money, and all of the drugs in the bins, does my Big Box Chain employer really think I'm going to be a hero?! I started laughing! It was the most ridiculous thing to think I would fight off some guy over drugs. As a matter of fact, I'm going to offer the guy the large pill bottle full of 500 count narcotics in the back of the pharmacy area.

So I'm laughing and my shift manager walks in, looks at me, looks at the screen, and asks what's so funny. I didn't bother to explain fully.

Tell me folks, give me stories about silly and weird happenings at work.

LOL! The gift that keeps on giving...

Anyway, you'd be surprised, Aimee. It may be more of a male thing, (Not trying to start anything, just going on anecdotal evidence) but I have heard of many low-level wage employees trying to protect "their" store from the loss of a robbery. It is somewhat admirable, although discretion is indeed the better part of valor.

Now now Aimee you shouldn't take those things so lightly. ;D I used to work at a Dominos Pizza and it was in nice quiet, suburbia but everyone knew about the one night that someone came in and held up the store with a gun and didn't care that the clerk was pregnant and showing. No one got shot but it just goes to show that this sort of thing does happen. I think most crooks overlook pharmacies though because they know there's usually several people working inside.

Congrats on the new job!! :)

Oh I have a sort of funny workplace story. One night I was working very late and my boss and his fiance were there helping me finish this one project that was due.

It was around 1:00am and I was feeling fine and going about my work when suddenly the two of them started laughing loudly. It was just the 3 of us in the room and there was no radio or tv on so I asked them what I had missed and they looked at each other and started laughing again. Then the fiance said "Gabe don't you know why we we're laughing?" I thought hard but couldn't think of a reason so I said "no" and she immediately started laughing as she said "Gabe, you were singing and moving your hips like you were dancing!" LOL I honestly had no idea. I asked them what I was singing but they said they didn't recognize the song. Then they told me to go home and get some sleep lol.

Well, my own stupidity at work is showcased in the first page of the "That awkward moment when..." thread.

A couple of months after I first started working as a teller at the bank, I was in the main part (not the drive-through) and this guy comes in, no smile on his face, with one hand in his jacket pocket. My heart started beating a little faster as he walked towards my station. I thought for sure I was going to get robbed. With the hand that was in his jacket pocket, he pulled out...a bag of change, to cash in.

Seriously people, do not walk into a bank with one hand in your jacket pocket. I mean that's one way to make a girl's heart skip a beat, but there are better ways. ;)

Other than that, a lot of the time people think I can read their minds. One time, someone withdrew from their savings account, and I so sent the tube back out with the cash. She then says, "I wanted that put into my checking." Oh, sorry, the glass between me and you must have blocked my super-power of reading minds and knowing that that's what you wanted to do.

I really do like my job...honest! :o

they told me shakira and those hips dont LIE!
