So I've always been socially anxious and never gone on a date at all. As of late, I am comfortable in all areas of my life aside from dating, so I decided to start working on my fear of approaching girls or even just starting small talk and speaking my mind with random people. I tried to overcome it last year, but it didn't go well, and I just spent a year going out, wanting to talk with people, rarely doing it, and then being depressed. I remember missing an opportunity at my church as well with a girl that was flirting with me, but having just started to try and overcome my anxiety, I just froze and then creepily approached her later only to be embarrassed.
Anyway, over the last 2 weeks I've made loads of progress. I've talked with random store employees, cashiers, given random people compliments, and even approached two girls I thought were cute. One was after I worked up the courage and just forced myself over to her, and was too nervous and had nothing to talk about, so I made a comment about her yogurt she was eating, only to have the conversation end after that. It still felt amazing to conquer a fear like that though. Today, I saw a cute girl looking at sci-fi books. I contemplated approaching and could feel the anxiety building, when I just thought "What's the worst that could happen? I don't approach and go home wishing I had gotten to know her" so I forced myself over to her. I don't think she was that into me, but I asked her some questions, and she turned out to not really be my type anyway.
After all this, I figured that you all probably have some funny or entertaining stories about fear of approaching, approaching, or if a girl, being approached. Would love to hear them
