I agree, though. Closing inactive threads is a good idea because then we won't be responding to something that no one even cares about anymore.
Then again, though, if there is a relevant truth that God wants spoken into a 'zombie thread' and it's closed, that would result in a new thread being created. I know this happens already, but just another side of the coin to consider.

I can almost get behind this, but for different reasons.
If another poster finds a thread useful, they can cross link to an old thread. That way every one who responds to it responds to the OP, not the OP of some several year old thread.
Of course they can (and should) do that now, but I guess not everyone does.

The issue is someone finds an old thread and starts responding to people in it. Half the time the users they're responding to aren't even members. And other people see this thread and assume.. so they also respond to people who are no longer users. And it often does no good to point this out as people ignore the other comments and respond to the OP. So it becomes this domino effect of people reading the first post and ignoring everything else and dragging the thread out. So i say the benefit to closing them outweighs any possible problems. Closed threads are still readable anyways. So really nothing hurting.

Closing a thread only makes it so it can't be responded to. But shouldn't affect its coming up in searches. No one said to delete them, just make them so they can't be brought up again.

People are correct about SEO and not closing threads in general But there are other reasons.
Some of these threads have practical use for ministering to people, and keeping them open allows users to engage in needed discussion when the situation arises. Some new users may not want to make a new thread about said topic, or may feel intimidated about making a new thread as a newb. Sometimes people find a topic through a google search, sign up, and they might not be able to find the start new thread button due to lack of familiarity with CC.
Other times, keeping threads open can prevent over clutter of threads on a certain topic.
Sometimes closing someone's thread can lead to the drama of the century!
Back when the forums were in their infancy, I would close a few old threads. This was before the policy of keeping most threads unclosed. One of the users, a MUCH significant time later tried posting to one of their closed threads. This user viewed it as a personal attack of sorts, even after an explanation. There was much carrying on and drama, and oh my goodness. You wouldn't think such a thing would cause that level of emotional trauma, but it did.
Even after the explanation.
