Is anyone here an expert on trouble shooting HP printers? I have a 5640 series HP printer (HP ENVY 5642 to be exact) that will not print properly. Color only prints when running a test page and black ink prints for the most part, but is faded or missing at times. I tried aligning it, cleaning the cartridges, restarting it etc.. but nothing works.

Hello @mailmandan, I assume that you print from your computer, but when you run the test (that prints in color), do you run that test the same way as you print (from your computer), or are you running it manually (IOW, are you running the test from the printer itself, instead of through the HP software on your computer)

If it is the latter, and you are running the test manually, the first thing that I'd try is uninstalling your present HP software/firmware/driver, downloading the newest version(s) of it from www.hp.com, and then reinstall it.
