Clearly I'm still a newbie if I'm still asking questions here.

How come I keep getting auto subscriptions from my friends and how do I get them to stop, no offense to the friends! :)

If you mean on the front of your profile page, then you can't stop it. Its there so you can keep track of what your friends are posting.
