To: all linux user,
Sb: Adobe Flash

As some my know and other may not this is a notice that Adobe Flash will no longer support linux O/S'es but will keep for now codex for lastes flash in there software so that linux user will be able to use there products with limited operation.

Ex-sample that to use christain chat you need to give this site global promission to your camera and mic first before you can use these options in christain chat.

click on link to change your global Settings: https://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager06.html

If you still need help please feel free to ask..

Glad to have you on the forums, Zero! I've pondered going back to Linux - or at least dual booting. We'll see. :)

P.S. Did you borrow your screen name from the Crichton book of the same title? Or perhaps the 80s movie Hackers?

Aye, the file system seems more efficient, and I digress: I like supporting open source projects.

From Adobe: NOTE: Adobe Flash Player 11.2 will be the last version to target Linux as a supported platform. Adobe will continue to provide security backports to Flash Player 11.2 for Linux

Considering going back to Linux (dual boot, but Linux as primary OS). I was most comfortable and content with Linux Mint, and I'm considering the Debian version over the Ubuntu one this time.

Thoughts?

I've read that Debian is lighter on system resources but has more of a learning curve, plus some other stigmas that come with Debian build.

You think Ubuntu is the way to go? If I did that, I'd probably go with the Cinnamon download.

First off let get the basic down. Debian and Ubuntu are the same, only with a few comandline differences. Now what distro and what desktop to use. Well it depends on two factors: 1. ram & CPU 2. Graphic Ram.

Ubuntu 2-d
Ubuntu 3-d
Lubuntu (While Ubuntu is a good O/S there a basic bones install and missing 90% of media codex.)
Xubuntu

Linuxmint Mate - Easy on the CPU and graphics card With 3D effects
Linuxmint Cinnamon - Heavyer on the CPU and Graphic card. Nvida 1gig Reccamended.
Linuxmint KDE - Same as mate
Linuxmint XFC - For older computers and very light on the memory and cpu
Linuxmint Openbox - same as XFC.

Linuxmint as everything in the basic dvd install all the codex to play dvds and oneline games. I highly recomend linuxmint to all users.

Debian linux is a bear bones O/S and come with no Codex and you have to install what you want it to do. its a hazly to mess with the command lines for new users.

I use linux mint as my primary O/S and I also use ipfire as my server and firewall along with providing WIFI for my complex for a price.

Ah, that helps. Thanks Zero! Research seemed to state that Debian is more stable because the updates are older, and the available updates are older because of testing before release ─ whereas Ubuntu yields updates that have not undergone as much quality assurance. I had some minor instability issues with Ubuntu 12.4 (last build I used). which is why I considered LMDE instead.

I'll take your advice into account and play around with it again! Hopefully I can familiarize myself enough with it to where it becomes my primary OS too. :)

Aye I've read that, thanks! I'm looking into it now. I like the Cinnamon interface, but I've used it once, so I may try something else.

Not to go off-topic but Linux Mint is certainly better than Ubuntu after the spyware toolbar they installed...

Ubuntu/Linux-Mint etc. however, are not fully free in the sense the source code is not open. It contains "binary blobs" which are used for drivers and are encrypted. So no telling if there's a virus packaged in there or not, we just know "it works" so they include it into the Linux Kernel. For more information see:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux-libre

This is why GNU/Linux is even better still with freedom in mind. You can "sudo apt-get install cinnamon-desktop" on any distro. :)
Here's the link to 100% libre distros: https://www.gnu.org/distros/

Huh... thanks for the info, G4JC! I seem to recall reading a blog about somebody who left Ubuntu for LMDE for likewise reasons. Even as a PC tech, the amount of Linux distros is almost daunting to me.

theres only a few distros out there, but many flavors to pick from.

Formatted my drive and I will be using Linux Mint MATE (installing from USB). I've read that running a Live CD off USB is more efficient than ever, as almost everything is ran from memory. I'll try that out as well.

Thanks for the help, Zero! I'm going through a rough patch, and I probably won't be on the site much while I work through it. But I will refer back to this thread and perhaps take you up on the email, should I find myself in a confounding predicament. :p

Take care.
