Just FYI, non of those statistics that Rondonmon has provided are supported by scripture. No where is the age of the Universe listed, much less the length of a day outside of the literal evening and morning. It's conjecture only. God's creation doesn't have to be explained within the realm of science. I have no problem with God creating the sun, moon and stars in one literal 24 day.
Not to worry. Rondonmon's stats aren't supported by scientists or scholars either. Said. But never supported. :)

Can I take a billion years of rest before I start with the six billion of work?
If you lived a infinite life would grow a tree in 6 days or 6 billions years, I like the idea of billions of years would be much more enjoyable in the long haul then just a mere six days then what tittle the tumbs all day long...

in my understanding if the earth were stationary that would not in any way whatsoever affect the distance to the stars.

so where did you get this idea . . ?

Oh, my mind took off in cartoon-style. I actually pictured the earth grinding to a halt, ("the earth is not moving"), and 7.2 billion minions (those critters from the movies) floating away into space, because gravity ceased to work.

Soooo, yours is how a scientific mind takes that image? Meh. Mine is funnier. lol

((P.S. -- ya'll do know the OP is a one-hit-wonder who posted something he hoped would be divisive and then disappeared, never to return again, right? we had a handful of such 'new members' with exactly one post, a new thread designed to stir up controversy yesterday, all within the space of a couple hours.))
Maybe. But we're having fun with it. :)

Ah, but then we get into what does rest mean. For me, it's spending time with God, friends, and playing.

One of my hobbies is growing a bonsai tree. I used a jade branch to start. So, it's a baby jade. It's seven years later, and it's not a tree yet. Either it becomes a tree before I die, or it doesn't. It really doesn't matter, because I get to watch a twig turning into a tree... when I'm resting. lol

Same here I enjoy doing that as well :) and I have always found the concept behind growing a bonsai tree pretty cool...

So if God is able to create the entire universe and everything in it is it not possible for Him to create it with antiquity? Why so, that the foolishness of men might be made manifest.

For the cause of Christ

So by your argument you are saying that God deliberately deceives people by providing false information. So how are we supposed to know when to rely on him? For all we know he could have provided a false bible to show how foolish we all are.

In nonfiction as well as fiction, when a new term is used it is also defined. The term in the Bible was "day." The definition was immediately given.

Gen. 1:3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

So, reinventing the wheel into a hodge podge of excuses culminating in part cone and part rectangle hits -- NO WAY, DUDE!
Except you are missing what separating the Darkness from the Light meant in that verse. YOM means TO BE HOT.... So if God Created Stars (HOT GASSES) and separated it from the DARK that was the first Day...........

1.) Quantum Fluctuations (Laws of Nature.....God)
2.) Inflation
3.) After Glow for 380,000 years
4.) 400 Million Years of DARK AGES
5.) First Stars start appearing at the 400 Million year mark.

So the FIRST DAY is the EVENING (400 Million years of Darkness)
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.5 And God called the light Day, (TO BE HOT) and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

You see the 400 MILLION YEARS OF DARKNESS ? Is the Darkness and the Light divided ? Sure it is, the Darkness came first (Evening) then the Stars or the LIGHT CAME INTO BEING (Morning). Have you ever wondered why it is the Evening and the Morning instead of the other way around ? Because the Darkness came first !! BOOM.

Because its a nonsense.
Really? How long isn't nonsense? 6001? 5999? 12,000? 5,000? 25,000? Do we have any clue, really? The only thing I know for sure is history starts about 4000 years ago. (Historic is the time when info is recorded. Prehistoric merely means it we have no records.) It seems Noah brought recorded history in that boat with him, but that's the problem with recording history. Sooner or later what it is recorded on decays. So we really don't know how old the earth is. Why not 6,000?

Yeah. Repeating the same nonsense doesn't make it any less nonsense. :)

Recorded human history has nothing to do with the age of the Universe or of our planet.

At least millions of years of many living creatures are needed for the oil and gas to be created. Not to speak about the planet formation or about galaxies.

Even with God creating the whole shebang? Do you not believe Genesis 1?

Ahhh, now? I pick "land directly east of Atlantic City" for a reason. If anyone is gullible to buy that off me, I don't feel guilty about cashing the check. But there really is beach front property in Hawaii. lol

God allows men to deem themselves wiser that He. From this God through the most simple things to Him shows them to be fools.

Where does Genesis 1 say the universe is 6000 years old?
It doesn't. (Rather why I didn't think one way or another about 6000 years. Might be. Might not be. Who knows?) But then again it does say land animals and Man was created on the same day, so are you saying Man has been around for oh so long that we had to wait around for the oil and gas to show up? And since obviously some animals did die by falling into tar pits, and tar is a precursor to oil, whoa! Humans and dinosaurs really survived for a long, long, loooong time together.

Antiques are foolish things? A far away star is a foolish thing? The hugeness of the universe is a foolish thing?
