If God's going to slam you (which is who that verse is about -- God doing his toughest on his kids), it really doesn't matter if you stand sit, or lie down. He's still going to make life hard on you so you learn the only thing you can do is trust in him.
God doesnt smash me or you or anyone else least my God doesnt.
Tell me about this God of yours who smashes people?

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." Psalm 23:1

"‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for from you shall come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’” Matt 2:6

"When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things." Mark 6:34

"When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things." John 10:1-4

"So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep." John 10:7

"
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." John 10:11

Jesus' talk on being the good shepherd is very instructive. It means that although we are like sheep being slaughtered, we can trust that Jesus is going to take care of us.

In fact, that OP verse, (Besides being a quote from Psalm 44:22 as already mentioned), Romans 8:36, is the end of a series of rhetorical questions Paul is asking on behalf of believers who are suffering, struggling and being persecuted.

The answer to these questions is contained in the following verses.

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. [SUP]38 [/SUP]For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, [SUP]39 [/SUP]nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:37-39

Many in Germany, mainly Jews, lost whatever faith they had during the Nazi reign of terror; their faith in God did not reach past the visible slaughter going on. Does our faith take hold and cling to Jesus in the midst of each tempest?

Um, it worked for Paul, Peter, and quite a few other apostles. Are you sure it won't work for you?

Not saying the goal is to be murdered by a mob, but the Ten Boom family hid Jews in their home during the Holocaust knowing what the cost could be. They were caught and sent to the camps. Mom, Dad, and sister died. Only Corrie survived, and didn't survive unscathed. Later on, she came face to face with the man who killed her family and the Jews hiding in their house. He had since been saved. She needed mega-doses of love from God to love that man. Her testimony has saved many.

I truly doubt any of us will have to physically die for God, but don't dismiss that as something God would never do. He's already proved he will, even to his people. He will bring his own kids to death to save other kids. The one thing we have going for us is to know that death isn't in vain and brings us face to face with our true goal -- God in all his glory, righteousness, and love.
You're very right, sister. And believe me, IMO there is no greater honor than to die for the Word of God.

Isaiah 53:7
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

1 Peter 4
4 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;"

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
[SUP]13 [/SUP]But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

All I can say is that there are a few that cannot even take the heat from a little criticism and or sarcasm here in CC....no way they will endure when crap hits the fan before the body presence of Christ!

1 Peter 3:14-18
14But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; 15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. 17For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. 18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Matthew 5:10-12

10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

1 Peter 2:21-23
21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

Matthew 5:10

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Acts 14:22
strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.

2 Corinthians 6:3-10
3Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: 4But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, 5In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; 6By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, 7By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 8By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; 9As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; 10As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

The cross is a symbol of death and dying to self, putting God's desires above our own. That however does not mean that we are to just take whatever comes lying down. If it comes to steal, kill or destroy, it comes from the devil and we are to resist the devil. Deception is Satan's best weapon and he loves to pretend to be God.
It's not its own will. Death is not a being. It's God's will. Jo and her hubby aren't deceived. They know what they're up against, and know, even though it is a slow extremely hard road, it will take them to their Father.

Well, I don't know your god, but the real God gave Satan permission to destroy Job's children, his business, and his health. And that was a guy God called after his own heart.

He wouldn't let Jonah stay on his temper tantrum. Instead, he had Jonah live in a large fish for three days to take him where he wanted him to go. Some fish facts: The temperature in a large fish's stomach is 104 degrees. Even in a huge fish, the person is cramped in the stomach, with nothing but stomach lining and digestive juices trying to squish the meal until it can fit down the digestive tract. In three days time, it has eaten away the top layer of skin and bleached it, along with dehydrating him. Jonah must have been a frightening sight when he was spit out onto the beach.

Paul. Paul was blinded for three days, put in prison more than once, attached by mobs a couple of times, shipwrecked and washed ashore, and he had something seriously eating him, enough so that he begged God to take the thorn from his side. God didn't. God could, but didn't. Then Paul was stuck in prison for two years before the Romans killed him in such a way Medieval torture look like a day in the park in comparison.

The Israelites -- taken from their land for hundreds of years several times, not even counting the time they were taken into Egypt, because they didn't even have land before that, and not counting the 40 years in the wilderness, when God might have them move any given day or night at his signal.

Corrie Ten Boom. Scroll up to see what she and her family went through. Let's just skip that another 6 million Jews were murdered by those same people and a few million nonJews were too, (at least 1 million of them were believers), quite often for trying to help their neighbors.

Joni Eareckson Tada. Once a young Christian women who went for a swim one day, dove in, and then floated up to the surface again after breaking her neck. A quadriplegic who took the next six months with her best friend to try and figure out the obvious question -- "Why me, God?" She did, so then she learned how to paint and write, made a living from that and then gave back. She goes all around the world helping disabled people what they need to make a better life for themselves. What do they need? First God. Second, sometimes she gives a wheelchair to an Indian with no legs who has lived by "walking" with her hands. Sometimes she comforts a completely paralyzed man who couldn't call out when the ants came one night and nibbled on his body. Can't get worse than that? A few years ago, God gave her breast cancer.

You've never gone through anything tough? According to your introductory post, you're perfect, in a perfect world, being God's perfect spokesman for all of us to marvel at. You've never gone through anything tough? What's wrong with you? If I were you, I'd be worried God's leaving me behind, because you have yet to even learn you need to trust in him. So far, you seem to believe he needs to trust in you.

Are you forgetting that Christians have an enemy called Satan who is out to kill, steal, and destroy? Don't attribute the works of Satan to the will of God. God and Satan aren't working together.

Wouldn't you say that God allows the trials seeing He is infinitely more powerful than any angel-demon?

Satan has no authority unless God Almighty releases it for the end result to be for God's glory and His purpose. Same goes for the crucifixion of Christ Jesus. The end result is what matters. Long ago God could have destroyed Satan, but there is a purpose that He hasn't just yet. Same goes for releasing Satan at the end of the millennium when Satan is released again for a short time.

"And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord." Job 1:12

"And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown." Job 2:6

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. Isaiah 55:8

Are you forgetting Satan can do nothing without asking God first? It wasn't Satan who put Noah, Jonah, Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Joseph, Joshua, Saul, David, Gideon, etc. through all that stuff. It was God. God could have given the apostles an easier time. He didn't. He could have saved the Ten Booms. He didn't. He could have protected Joni's neck. He didn't. He could have protected the Trade Center. He didn't. He could have protected The Tube. He didn't. He uses everything to gather himself a people and then to refine his people.

I don't much bother with what Satan's doing. He lost. He lost way back in the garden. He lost when Jesus was in the wilderness. He lost when Jesus let himself be nailed onto that cross.

Read the OP verse. They aren't about Satan. They're about God's kids. And it was important enough that God made sure that same verse hit twice -- OT and NT -- so there is no chance we can confuse who it's about or come up with the age-old excuses.

Actually, I wasn't technicaliting that. I was remembering when I tried to give up on God, but he wouldn't let me go. :)

I am a warriour and take nothing from the enemy. I will take nothing lying down.

Job...sometimes you just don't have a choice and you die while God watches and the devil plays cards

It's not a game
