I used to always take my Bible to church. But it is a thick study Bible, and only one translation. Our pastor in our last church was always trying to get people to bring a hard copy Bible to church. But I love using my light weight tablet, and having access to lots of translations and the original languages. I'm too old to change back! Lol

How many of you bring your own Bible to Church Service?

I've noticed for awhile now that less and less people bring their own Bible to Church. I know there are some Church's have Bibles under the chairs so they are available. I was at my sisters Church this last weekend and really didn't see anyone with a bible. A few people had tablets with them so I'm guessing they used the Bible on that. There were no Bibles under the chairs. I usually bring my Bible every Sunday so I can take notes and also check what the pastor is saying.

So just curious if this is the norm these days or do most of you see something different.
I used to. Then I went to a church that has Bibles in slots behind the pew in front of us. Since I had/have ESV and they NIVed, I used theirs.

Haven't been to a church in over a decade. Kind of imagine most bring their Bibles via smart phones/tablets now.

I bring the whole kaboodle to Church...Bibles, commentaries, word studies, lexicons etc., etc., all on my 8" tablet :)
Can even record the msg on the tablet if I care to.
So you leave your kit at home?

Poor kit. I bet kit misses kaboodle.

I'm too old to change "forward"! I just like having my Bible with me and feel a little awkward without one!

All the people in my church bring their own bibles. Few years ago they were all actual books you hold in your hand. Now a few members including myself have them on their smart phone, ipad or tablet. The electronic ones are lighter in your hand :)

Everyone uses the KJV aside from one Korean member who brings I think an NIV in Korean. Mainly KJV so everyone is reading the same thing. Not that we actually believe the KJV to be the re-inspired word of God, which some bible baptist type churches do teach.

On this note: How many of you using electronic devices ever think to <REVERSE> the background colors so that you are not glaringly disturbing those around you (especially behind you) with that bright, white screen shining out so distractingly?
Aww, is your church so dark a little ambient light blinds you? LOL

I've been watching Joel Osteen off and on for a while, and have found that a bible isn't really necessary because he never reads from it. :)
but the topic is the bible in Church...not in Fantasyland

I always take mine. I have too many sticky notes inside my bible with little notes wrote down to help me understand what I'm reading. Things I've found in my study and things I've heard that I felt were important to remember. So I never leave it behind. Plus I like having a actual book in my hand. I feel odd not taken it.
I also feel like I'm being disrespectful when I try to use my bible app on my phone and I get distracted easily so having my phone out wouldn't do me any good.

This is kind of cheaply insulting. He quotes Scripture all the time, and it is even on the screen for you to read along as he talks. Knock anyone you feel you need to... but at least do it honestly.
Eww!!! I guess he touched a nerve with a fan:D

After smiley got so much bad press from RIGHTEOUS men of God; he started to put more scripture up. Doesnt mean he interprets it properly does it? You shouldnt embarrass yourself by associating with smiley and asian elvis.
Oh hey! Where in the Bible does it say there are many paths to God? I was wondering where smiley got that one from?

Romans 12:2 do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. then you will be able to test and approve what God's will--his good, pleasing and perfect will

i encourage you to remember that even tho it is tradition to take a black leather bible to church, do you really think GOD will judge you for that, or is it the closed minded stares of the traditional people who cant renew their mind in that the Holy Word comes in other forms. remember that the scriptures were once on scrolls...not a bound black leather book

Almost everyone at our church uses their phones. I use a Kindle Fire. The preacher uses a tablet. My wife prefers her NIV hard copy.
I prefer my Berkshire Leather Bound Cambridge Black Letter Wide Margin King Jimmy...all in one breath AHAH

We have two screens also. But I often want to see the verses in different versions than Chris picks
we have screens too, and a number of people use their phones or a tablet.

for me it's not so much to read a different translation as to see the surrounding context and also to look at cross-references (though i do bring a kjv & that's not what's on the screen). and to jot notes!
i find it much easier to do this with an actual book than on a tiny screen.

another thing is that at our church, although we have a 'pastor' that usually preaches, anyone who is led to can preach, just have to let the pastor know so it can be scheduled. so often there are men other than the pastor teaching - and some of them either don't get the message to the people that run the screens, or they wind up referring to scriptures that they didn't intend to before they stood up to talk to us, so what's in the bulletin & on the screen doesn't cover everything whoever is teaching wants to bring to our attention.

i don't think ((in general)) a person should feel disrespectful over using an electronic 'book' -- but knowing yourself, that you get distracted easily, you are certainly being respectful to keep yourself this way!!
i notice other people around me being distracted by their devices sometimes; i don't want to say anything to them, but i think they could learn from you on this point :)

.... When I use my phone the light is so bright its very obvious and distracks people. Little kids who see it start talking loud and trying to get to my phone. It's disrespectful to interrupt church like that.
Has nothing to do with tradition, being close minded or nothing to do with feeling like Gods word doesn't come in other ways.
I get your point but don't jump to conclusions so fast.
