Lucifer was the worship leader in Heaven.
The forbidden fruit was an apple.
God sends us to Heaven on our own righteousness for doing good deeds.
God helps those who help themselves.
Heaven will be boring: endless singing and harp playing.

I blame The Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost for some misconceptions about Lucifer and the nature of Heaven and Hell. It's and disturbing how many of our beliefs about the afterlife in particular, have been borrowed from non-Biblical culture rather than sourced from God's Word.
Can you think of any other misconceptions? How might we go about lovingly correcting people on these points?
Please discuss them here.

I agree with most of these, but I'd like to hear your reasoning for "God helps those who help themselves."

Well, it seems rather selfish. God helps those who help others would seem more in line with God's Word. I'm not arguing that we shouldn't be proactive and responsible but that focusing on ourselves and looking to God for help in that, isn't biblically sound.

The whole jist of redemption from is it's not of ourselves.
Most often when, "God helps those who help themselves" is used it is to justify not seeking God in life scenario's or worse... NOT HELPING someone who is in need.
The phrase... as tin tin pointed out... is not in the bible nor a scripturally sound principal
A born again believer... DOES NOTHING successful apart from God... the phrase glorifies self effort when our lives are to be spirit led to glorify God.

If one recites a prayer, one will inherit eternal life.

Jesus said the requirements for eternal life were believing in him. I am sure we are all familiar with John 3:16.

If the prayer has been prayed with the right heart motivation and the desire to repent and believe on Jesus Christ, I don't think we can judge a person and say that they haven't accepted God's gift of grace.

I wouldn't argue this. The title is misconceptions not found in the bible, I just listed one of them.

That Heaven is just a bunch of clouds and that Hell is just really really hot. There's so much more to both! Also, I've heard that Hell is a party. So far from it.

That Jesus was a fair skinned, blonde haired, blue-eyed man.

That the Leviathon/Behemoth is a hippo/alligator.

That Jesus will make your life easier and will fix absolutely everything.

That on the day of Pentecost everybody who was filled with the Holy Ghost started speaking what I call gibberish, when really each man was simply hearing every other man in his own language.

the term 'yield' is also misused as in 'just yield to God' as they mean 'go limp before God'. Nope, the word 'yield' (paristano) as in Rom 6
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
(Rom 6:13)

is not a passive action but more of a military stance of presenting oneself for action or duty. This word is so misused today in our feminized form of Christianity.

This one is not in the bible but the reason the sky is blue is because Jesus was a baby boy.
