Yes please! Can someone describe what that is like, that His Spirit bears witness with our Spirit that we are children of God? What is that like? Is it something you feel and are aware of?

Romans 8:14-16

For as many as are lead by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God
For ye have not recieved the spirit of bondage again to fear, but ye have recieved the Spirit of adoption where we cry Abba, Father.
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of GOD.
The Holy Spirit aslo leads usinto understanding the Bible, into freedom and who we are in Christ- the children of God.
And this is the core issue. Some KNOW and some don't. My heart is to try to get to believers who are doubting or insecure.

If we don't have salvation firmly planted in our minds................we go nowhere in the Christian way of life.

And ANYBODY who thinks salvation can be lost is sitting on the fence or a stump. We need to realize and believe we are safe and secure in Christ. We go nowhere if we are not sure and BOLD in Christ as children of GOD.

It doesn't matter if we become masters of the original language, go to seminary, and have an intellect that surpasses most.............we are on a stump if we believe salvation can be lost. We may think we are well advanced in the Christian life, but we just THINK we are.

We CANNOT advance in the Christian way of life if we are not SURE of our salvation. We spend our whole life in DEAD works hoping we attain it or maintain it.

I don't always necessarily "feel" it all the time; it's true because the Bible says so but if I tried to explain it would kinda be like when one holds the baby.. that all encompassing love/warmth.... the rightness of it.

When one is born again it is like we know that we know, we are His. His presence permeates our 'knowing'.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
[17] Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Let's not detract from the OP please. Just like we're not going to talk about hyper grace, let's also not talk about once saved always saved.

Going back to the OP, We are born again spiritually, but we still have our flesh bodies until glorification at the end of our race of faith/Sanctification. The Spirit is now indwelt among us, but the nature of our flesh bodies can pull us away from that walk we need to have in God. Thus we have our flesh nature and the Holy Spirit. In essence, we have a spiritual war going on against the flesh, the world, and the enemy himself as we go about our daily walk. We understand that God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit in that still small voice and through His word. IF we do abide and listen to what the Spirit is saying to us, whether directly or through His word, then it will be well for us!

The leading of the Holy Spirit will never lead us wrong. However, the Holy Spirit doesn't always lead us according to our feelings or how we like to rationalize things. Oftentimes, the way the Spirit leads us is contrary to what we will think! This is why we are not called to be feelings and experience led, but Spirit led! Even the enemy can mess with our feelings so when we think a feeling is from the Holy Spirit we are called to test it! Goosebumps aren't always from the Holy Spirit.

We are admonished and exhorted to put on the whole Armor of God. So when it is not on, we are vulnerable yes. The Holy Spirit can seem like our conscience at times yes, and He speaks to us that way as well. However, we are told to compare everything we hear by man or by spirit to the scriptures to see if it is so! Thankfully, the Holy Spirit will never contradict the scriptures :)

My understanding is ( as you say part of what the Holy Spirit does ) the Spirit dwells in you once you receive Jesus as Lord. As you pray ( without ceasing ) for the Lord to live in you and through you, as you ask him to renew your mind and heart, and as you allow him to take control of your life and let every thought be captive to him, you will start to have the mind of Christ and yes what you do and say and feel and think and how you react will start bit by bit to be as Christ was and is. The fruits of the spirit will start to be evident in your life

Yes, the Holy Spirit will never contradict His Word. If what we are hearing does not jive with the Scriptures then red lights should go off.

I would say, if you are born again, the Holy Spirit already lives in you and through you. You might pray to be filled with Him and (less of you).
He also is already in full control, we just need to acknowledge and act on that.
As we spend time in His Word and in His Presence, you will see transformation and fruit take place.

We still struggle with the flesh so he does not have full control. We are still beings of freewill. Ask Paul the apostle

I couldn't sleep.
It is impossible to me that God would allow this witness of the Holy Spirit to my Spirit, and what I have come to know and understand is His voice, be sometimes not Him. If you don't experience His voice this way and this is not how you experience the witness of His Spirit to yours, that's okay, but I don't think it's good to try to convince someone that His voice might not always be His voice. He said My sheep know My voice, and I do. But maybe someone younger, who hears Him this way might be harmed by telling them His voice might not always be His voice. As people like to say, He is not a God of confusion.

I once found a verse where a man said, a Spirit passed by my face and the flesh of my arms stood up. And I thought, wow! I am not the only one!

For those who hear Him this way, I don't think it's wise to ask Him to wait until we go read our bible because someone told us it might not be Him. I think the correct response is as eli told Samuel: yes Lord, your servant is listening!

I can feel his presence wash over me in waves. It is like invisible beams of warmth coming down over me. It is like his favor in such power that the favor can be felt.

An interesting topic presented by the OP.

If I something comes into my mind, a "whisper" of something good or bad, etc, is it my conscience now defending/now condemning, or is it the enemy?

I think the answer lays within each person's heart, which the Lord will make clear to them pretty readily, I think, if they have the courage to ask.

Can Satan project thoughts directly into our minds? Guess I always assumed he could. You know, the little devil on the shoulder whispering into your ear image we've seen in cartoons. However, I remember hearing the tail end of a sermon or something in which the speaker refuted this assumption.

i will say that it may be helpful to consider the language of the enemy. He's a liar. Also he's only seeking to steal, kill and destroy. He'll try to create fear, intimidation, tell you you're finished, you'll fail, etc.

But yes, your conscience will call you to repentance and/or action as PeterJens suggested.

Almost like the...oil of gladness being poured on you!
And then He is gone as quickly as He came and you whisper, please don't go, please stay.
But faith grows when He hides.

If the voice you hear is contrary to scripture it is not his voice. That is why it is so important to immerse yourself in scripture.

Yes! I more recently became aware that sometimes an accusing thought is Satan. It always seems my own thought voice until I say, wait a minute. You can just shut up because God knows my heart. And even if I'm wrong, God will take care of it, not you. He's a little Roach, isn't he?
