16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.
17 But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God18 and know his will and approve what is excellent, because you are instructed from the law;19 and if you are sure that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth---21 you then who teach others, do you not teach yourself? While you preach against stealing, do you steal?22 You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?23 You who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking the law.24 For, as it is written, "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."Romans 2

I will show you where what you say does not quite match what Jesus said.
You say sin is the outward action, and you aren't wrong there.
But sin is also the inward action, as Jesus said, if you have anger in your heart, you have ALREADY murdered. If you think the thought, you have ALREADY committed adultery.

It is possible to murder inwardly, but not outwardly.
But it is NEVER possible to murder outwardly unless you first did it inwardly.

So where did the sin originate? The inside of the cup or the outside?
2 Corinthians 10:5King James Version (KJV)[SUP]5 [/SUP]Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;. If it is not in obedience it is disobedience. We have physical sin and thought sin. I'm with you my friend.

history, proves you wrong.(so take it up with history) anyone can mix and match scripture. the only question would be why are you mixing and trying to match scripture to suit a lie.
Half quoting something does not make your point. There is only one reason why we fail, and it is not ones conscience, it is lack of communion with the Lord.

I think what you are suggesting is you can ignore ones conscience, even though Paul is saying you should listen to your conscience.

It is not a powerful argument to say I am lying, it shows how you are living, not listening to your conscience. It sounds like you have sold out, and though convicted of sin by your own conscience you are searing it, just like the pharisees.
It destroys you inside.

Well this morning I was talking to god and he gave me some understanding in an area with a very simple answer...
How you treat someone at their worst.. only reveals how well love is operating in you at its best...

It seems that 'grace' believers have solved the problem of the hyper-condemnation of their hyper-legalistic religious upbringings by completely discarding the conscience altogether. Achieve a state of mind of*no condemnation*by discarding the tool that GOD gives us to keep us on the straight and narrow, and then call that state of mind*grace.

***************************

Well; rosefromthedead, you manage to slip in an attack against other members every chance you get; actually you don't need an opening...as you did with the quote above

Your words are malicious and purposeful in you apparent desire to besmirch members here who disagree with your interpretations

What part of YOUR conscience have you denied in order to keep at the level of slander and twisting the words of other posters that you have achieved?

Well, kind of.

Romans 10
[SUP]13 [/SUP]For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” [SUP]14 [/SUP]How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?[SUP][c][/SUP] And how are they to hear without someone preaching? [SUP]15 [/SUP]And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” [SUP]16 [/SUP]But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” [SUP]17 [/SUP]So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

And I disagree about things being easy to understand.

2 Peter 3

[SUP]14 [/SUP]Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. [SUP]15 [/SUP]And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, [SUP]16 [/SUP]as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. [SUP]17 [/SUP]You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. [SUP]18 [/SUP]But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

The conscience is not the Holy Spirit. The Bible plainly states this:

Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and*their*thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
ROMANS 2:15

your conscience can make excuses for you or accuse...all you are doing is having a conversation with yourself

Our spirits are not our conscience

Is that a newer translation? I usually read NLT but I have a few because it sometimes blesses me to read a different one. It's like...it sometimes makes me see verses instead of skipping over them in my mind, when I see them phrased slightly differently. Sometimes it makes one hit you in such a profound way that you say, oh wow, don't know how I never saw that!! I'm going to get an ESV.
My personal bible is NKJV, but I really like ESV. The verses I posted were ESV.

"The conscience is not the Holy Spirit."

I am reading someone trying to explain away their conscience.
There are many voices that come into our lives.

We need to answer each one and not run away.

Jesus when He was tempted was asked three questions which He answered from scripture.

It is not slander or a false accusation to say people need to answer their consciences.
The Holy spirit teaches us of God and His testimony. He gives us principles, morality, tells us of Jesus and His great love, how we walk with others. Our conscience then shows us the difference between the two.

It is this that helps us see where we are. So many walk with a guilty conscience condemning themselves, setting standards, asking them to see how they are walking, in the flesh or the spirit, rather than letting Jesus and Holy Spirit guide them.

Though the people talk about being led by the Spirit they appear very much guided by thought and belief, which by definition is religion. It is odd again those who hate a particular idea so much are often guilty of it themselves.

No one should ever ignore their conscience OR try to convince anyone else to do this either.

But we know, from Paul, that our conscience isn't perfect and can be weak.
However, we are to listen to our conscience, because even if what it is telling us to be sin is not really sin, if we think it is and do it anyway, it IS sin for us.

It can convince us that something is sin which really isn't and conversely, can tell us something is not sin when it really is.

Our conscience needs to be renewed just like our mind needs to be renewed.

Well then why pick apart the testimony of those who have studied Him as revealed in scripture and testify as to His work in their lives?

I would really and truly accept your word for it as you have so honestly supplied it

I think ESV came out in 2000. And I think I was wrong about my KJV. It doesn't say NKJV in it, but it says 1873 edition. I dunno if those are the same or not. I also like to look at different versions. Sometimes helpful. I have to be careful of that sometimes though, because I am often tempted to take the one that backs up my point while ignoring that all the rest say something different. Typically, I just stick to my King James and ESV since those are the ones I have always been more comfortable with. I used NIV growing up until I realized that much of the bible has been removed from it.

The leading of the Holy Spirit will never lead us wrong. However, the Holy Spirit doesn't always lead us according to our feelings or how we like to rationalize things. Oftentimes, the way the Spirit leads us is contrary to what we will think! This is why we are not called to be feelings and experience led, but Spirit led! Even the enemy can mess with our feelings so when we think a feeling is from the Holy Spirit we are called to test it! Goosebumps aren't always from the Holy Spirit.

In my experience, the Holy Spirit speaks to people in a wide variety of ways, intellect, emotions, intuition, other believers, the scriptures, dreams, etc. I do think you're right that people tend to believe that a particularly strong feeling, or novel idea must be the Holy Spirit and they will discount "ordinary" disciplines like a solid prayer life and bible study in favor of chasing after experiences. It's interesting how we'll consider certain experiences more weighty than the solid advice of long-time believers and the scriptures themselves.

God shapes us , even our pre salvation traits are all used for his kingdom. We need soldiers and babysitters and pastors and deacons and writers! lol
