I think I might have asked for it but they left pretty quick when I told them their book was false and I was a Christian.

I should have asked to keep the book of Mormon the other night when Mormons came to my door ;)
What a shame.

I've got one.

Cept I got mine at a thrift store...which usually don't charge for Bibles...for free.

As I recall, when I noticed the cashier wasn't going to charge me for it, I informed her "but this isn't a Bible" and she said it still qualified for "free".

First off I would like to say I do believe in the gift of tongues and that it is for today.

I received a free book a few weeks ago called Speaking in Tongues at Spirit Baptism by John David Clark, Sr.

I'll basically jump to the end of the book where there is a conclusion. Basically it states "we conclude that the body of Christ is composed exclusively of those who have received the baptism of the Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues, as the Spirit gives utterance "

I guess I never knew some Christians felt this way. I have heard some feel they are elite Christians if they have the gift of tongues, but not that they are the only TRUE Christians.

Anyone believe this on here or have ran into Christians that do?
No use speaking in tongues if there's no one around to translate it. Otherwise who knows what you're saying or who you're saying it from.

thingy? THINGY?! ::hides face with hands::

We have to handle this like MEN. It's a "doo-hicky" or "thing-a-ma-jig", etc. ::grunt::

New World
misTranslation is what you're referring to.

They've released a newer version in the last few years.

I've got several different versions that they printed that aren't the NWmisT.

True that.

John Clark Sr strikes me as a cultist.

...Is Speaking in Tongues Evidence of Salvation?...
Absolutely NOT!

Acts 2v21 states: "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."

However, speaking in tongues IS the evidence of a Christian having received the baptism in the Holy Spirit, see Here

Thanks for the response. Maybe it is found more in the US. I've never heard of it before until reading that book
Back in the 70's and 80's various charismatic groups and pentecostal groups pushed
this idea. As with most things it becomes a simple label.

There are groups where people have testified being put in babbling classes, where
you talk gibberish and it becomes tongues. The idea is stepping out in God and it
will flow.

They take the same view on healing. Lay hands on everybody and pray. Eventually
some will be healed.

So these groups do still exist today, but this kind of behaviour is just fake and goes
contrary to just having faith in Christ.

Other versions of the label proves salvation exist in doctrine, like OSAS will become
a dividing line, or do you criticise this preacher or teaching etc.

I think in the nature of people is to decide who is friend or foe, and make your
contacts on this basis.

Some say fruit is the true sign of a christian, and then others that this is an
evil idea, and condemn "fruit" inspectors. So the world of faith rumbles on, lol.

Yes and no.

Tongues is the least of the Gifts and people do fake the speaking in Tongues to deceive others. I do not desire, nor do i have the Gift of speaking in Tongues!

My Gift is "The Discerning of Spirits".

1Co 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

Cannot be associated with salvation or salvation would cease at some point.

Greater gift in that passage is prophesy.
1Co 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

If you claim to prophecy and it fails you are to be stoned. It is the prescription given to Israel by Jehovah God.

Hello Roger
I do not believe salvation will end until we are all called before the LORD in Judgment. Jesus said in Luke 11:9

Luke 11:9“And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 11 What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; 12or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Excerpt From: Crossway. “ESV Study Bible.”

As long as their are people willing to repent our loving Heavenly Father will be true to his word in scripture.
Blessings
Bill

Thanks everyone for not turning this into a fight about speaking in tongues. I think we can all agree it isn't a requirement for salvation and it isn't the ultimate sign of a true Christian

The only time I see value in speaking in tongues is when you can spread the gospel to someone who speaks a language you don’t speak. How often does that happen nowadays? Paul addressed this:

[27] If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn; and let one interpret.
[28] But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silence in church and speak to himself and to God. 1 Cor 14:27-28 RSV
