I only have a few minutes but I felt that many times we tend to support our arguments with our favorite scripture. When I read the title James 3:16, instinctively the first thing I do is read

James 3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. KJV

Too many times we let our word get in the way of God's word.

Mr. Hart, thank you for providing Scripture.
Oh, please sing my favorite song to me!

(Sung to the tune of 'The First Noel')

chorus

Know it all,
know it all,
know it all,
know it aaaaaaaaaall

Born is the king of Biblical knowledge

(Just kind of scrunch in the words in the last line to fit the verse....you know, Joni Mitchell style.)

Eros Ramazzotti scrunches too.
It's actually his style.
Does his own lyrics.

It's so good we could learn from each other without getting
All bent out of shape.
Some here are pretzels.

Too many times we let our word get in the way of God's word.
And if we read the whole chapter, we find exactly why the "wise man" of vs 13 is considered as such:

James 3:

1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

So the wise person referred to in vs 13 is the one who ---

Vs 2 – does not offend in word and is able to bridle the whole body.

Vs 7 – is restrained (the word "tamed" means restrained).

Vs 11 – is sweet.

Vs 13 – is endued with knowledge and displays good behavior, with meekness of wisdom.

Vs 17 – is pure, peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, is not partial, is not a hypocrite.

Vs 18 – sows the fruit of righteousness in peace.

On the other hand, the unwise person is the one who ---

Vs 2 – offends all.

Vs 5 – boasts great things and kindles fire (verbally).

Vs 6 – is defiled in his/her body because of his/her tongue.

Vs 7 – is unrestrained (not tamed).

Vs 8 – does not restrain his/her tongue and his/her tongue is full of deadly poison. ( In the case of an online chatroom, would that be "does not restrain his/her mind and his/her keyboard is full of deadly poison"?)

Vs 9 – curses others who are made after the similitude of God.

Vs 10 – has blessing and cursing proceeding out of his/her mouth.

Vs 11 – is bitter.

Vs 14 – full of bitter envying and strife in his/her heart.

Vs 15 – is earthly, sensual, devilish.

Vs 16 – because of bitterness and strife, is full of confusion and every evil work.

Just what im talking about, wont quit want stop critizing.it just go on and on. People look to tear others down. Makes you wonder whats is wrong. We tell our beliefs you dont agree or disagree, you cut them down.
Galatians 5:15,26 NIV
15If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
26Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.

Here's one of my favorites:

Galatians 5:12 NIV
12As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!

Yep. our citizenship is not on this earth (Phil 3:20).

We are a peculiar people (1 Pe 2:9). Are we really any different than that great cloud of witnesses who considered themselves strangers and pilgrims on the earth, seeking a better country, that heavenly city prepared for by God (Heb 11:13-16)?

Then I think about verses like 1 Cor 2:9 eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.. I just cannot imagine what God has prepared for us in eternity.
