If you go to a seminary, make sure it's one that aims to encourage you in the Word, not one that tries to discredit the Bible as God's revelation at every turn. Yes, they exist and yes, it's ridiculous and disturbing.
I do agree with you on this. When I was considering which seminary to attend, there was one in my home town, and one 3 1/2 hours away. I did not feel led to go the one that was close to me. A few years later, I had changed denominations because of a pastor who was really off track. I was talking to some of my fellow students on a break, and some mentioned they came from a church that was in the same (new) denomination I was in, in the same town. When I asked why he was not going to the home seminary, he started telling me about all the professors who did not believe the Bible, and taught it was wrong! Including the theology prof. So he figured it was worth it to move and come to a conservative seminary where everyone, from the office staff, professors and students believed the Bible and did not through things out they didn't like or agree with.
I'm so grateful that God led me to a good seminary. I did kind of figure it out the first year, when I found other students to be pastors ministering in churches from Anglican to Mennonite, Reformed, Lutheran and even charismatic in my classes. That seminary had such a good reputation for teaching the word of God, that people came from all over Canada, and from many different church backgrounds to study the Word of God.
Sorry I can't contribute to the software discussion. Maybe I do need to read some of these links! But that would require updating my OS. And I need some big time help to do that. Basically backing everything up. Yes, I have a backup drive, just not sure how to use it. (Maybe when my SIL come at Christmas I will corner him and get him to do it. He just updated his Mac, and had some serious problems after, including losing a presentation he finished and needed to be given the next day for class. He is very computer savy!)
