The word convict has the primary meaning of convince or persuade; hence our convictions are our most firmly held beliefs.
Only in a judicial sense does convict mean find guilty.
Only in a judicial sense does convict mean find guilty.
And that is why we must "repent/change" from our most highly held personal beliefs and instead agree with what God says. When we do this., we are encouraged to be learning how the truth sets us free. How there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. And the Holy Spirit reminds us by convicting us of our true identity in Christ that we are indeed righteous. We are holy and without blame before Him in love. Amen!
Now when we believers read about conviction., it is a positive and good and wonderful thing because in John 16:8-12 Jesus describes how conviction works now for the believer and the lost person. So important to have our minds changed in relation to how we read the Word. We are no longer condemned. This is not a JP truth., this is a Biblical-Jesus truth that many Christians have learned about and have shared even here on CC.
