First of all tell people you are a prophet.
This will get you the most insults and probably sent to the mental hospital.
Secondly prophesy.
This is most hated by lukewarm Christianity. You will be called false no doubt and accused of adding to Scripture.
Finally expose sin.
You may be physically harmed or threatened.
If you are worthy these things are bound to happen.

If you prophesy and you aren't 100 percent accurate, then scorn and derision should happen.

Oh how clever, you just used my words to support your own viewpoint.

Let me be clear here. Most of the people I've seen who call themselves prophets are self proclaimed. Their words do not speak for themselves, and they are lacking in humility. A true prophet does not speak words that tickle the ears.

The biblical standard is clear. Accuracy. Under the Old Covenant, a lying prophet was executed. I'm not going to advocate we go around executing people, but I would argue if someone is a "prophet" and the words they speak turn out to be untrue, then we should dismiss them wholesale. Whatever it is they're trying to do, it's an exercise in vanity, not faith.

Deuteronomy 18
[SUP]20 [/SUP]But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

Galatians 1
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

And many people died for not believing true prophets. The man who would not smite the prophet and was eaten by a wild animal. The man trampled by a mob for not believing the prophet about the future price of goods. Those who fleed to Egypt afraid of Babylonian revenge who were warned not to by a prophet. The man who was cursed for rebuilding Jericho in spite of true prophecy. The young punks who called a prophet bald head and were mauled by a bear. There is more but I think I proved my point. You do not scare me with the part about killing false prophets. It is more scarey to spite a true prophet.

I get the feeling you're trying to scare me, which again, would be an attempt to use my own words against me, would it not?

I was cautioning you that those who call themselves prophets need to be very careful, nothing more.

I also take blasphemy against the Holy Spirit seriously. So in case I was not clear enough - I'm not saying you are or are not a prophet since I've not seen you prophesy.

Where are you going with this? From where I'm sitting, there are some warning signs. You started this thread and discussed how prophets are persecuted, and then you have provided absolutely no context as to where this came from, or why this thread exists. It fits the pattern of many of the self proclaimed prophets I've met on the internet.

And it is more terrifying for a Prophet to have no control over his own spirit, when the Bible tells him to and constantly feels compelled to continue to tell everyone he is one, through vague threads and self proclaiming.

Let me spell it out for you plainly since the last time we went through this it did not sink in.

YOU ARE A FRAUD! you failed all Biblical tests I gave you in the last thread. Now stop your shameless self promotion and need to place yourself above everyone in the body of Christ

No true prophet would feel compelled to state they were, especially on chat board.

I do not promote myself; I promotethe gift of prophecy. We are commanded to desire it. Thats what you have a problem with. I did not even mention myself in this thread but I am sure you would like everything about prophecy today to go away. As for your test, I say Jesus Christ came in the flesh which is the biblical test.

Thats not a test. You're confusing prophecy with evangelism.

The prophecy you speak of is simply evangelism. We all know Christ came in the flesh.

"... for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Revelation 19:10

We all are prophets who profess Jesus as Lord.
I can not tell you what you will eat next tuesday for lunch however :)

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they, are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

yes in the new test. it is filled with the phrases,,"that it might be fulfilled",,,"that which is written",,,ect. that is in Isaiah 46;10 god said that from the beginning he told the end . so the modern day prophet would be stating the "exact words of prophecy god has already spoken",,,

That's a good quick litmus test, but even demons have admitted this (in scripture mind you), yet were still demons.

Mark 1
23And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, 24Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

Matthew 8
[SUP]28 [/SUP]And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
[SUP]29 [/SUP]And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

Well in the words of Christ "The world will hate you because it hated me first"
If someone claims to be a prophet the vast majority will persecute the claims and claimer.
However, you test a prophet by if what they say is in perfect harmony with the bible and if what they say actually happens.
Very interesting discussion topic.

Kind Regards

Jonathan, I really urge you to read the Bible, and found out the characteristics of prophecy and prophets.

Prophecy is NOT the occultic prediction of the future. It is not even trying to divine what the Bible prophets have written.

Biblical prophecy is exhortation. So if you are calling God's people to repentance and revival, good for you.

If you are predicting the end of the world and Jesus return, you are off track!

I highly recommend the easy to read book on hermeneutics for you to read.

How to Read the Bible for All its Worth by Gordon D. Fee and Douglas Stuart is an excellent primer on genre, interpretation and how to study the Bible. It will also help you understand the requirements for a prophet, and the nature of prophecy in the Old and New Testaments.

I guess I am confused as Jesus said, THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS were until John Luke 16:16 so was Jesus confused or was he unaware that prophets would come on the scene some 1950 years after John?

If they confessed it they would be of God according to the Bible. They did not confess it in the verses you posted. Read the next verse in 1 John 4. Demons do not confess Jesus came in the flesh. This is basic knowledge of spiritual warfare. The Devil hates manger scenes.

Prophecy is about the future. Revelation is a new testament prophecy book. How could you believe*God's promises about the future are occult? It is called a book of prophecy whe
