Okay. Now how does that fit with what you said in the other thread about how, "the message of the Law to us today is not that we must keep the laws in order to be saved, but rather that, because we are saved, we should keep these laws. The Law tells us how people who belong to God ought to live" ?
Nope. The law does not tell us who belong to God how we ought to live. The law is for rebellious people.
Laws come because men disobey God, not because they obey Him.
All of the law and the prophets speak of Christ who was to come.
He has come and now we follow Him, not laws concerning: don't touch, don't eat, wash your hands this way or that way. These laws do nothing to help us to have more faith in Him.

That's how I see it.

Here is a exhortation on "rest" that may speak to us.

Our Place of Rest

Rest.jpg

“He provides a resting place for me in His luxury-love.” (Psalm 23:2 The Passion Translation)

“He lets me lie down in green pastures.” Psalm 23:2 AMP

There is a beautiful picture of Jesus in the Scriptures. Not only is He our Good Shepherd, but He is also the sheep who laid down His life for His own. He is the lamb of God who took away the sins of the world. When Jesus became the final sacrifice for all time for sin, He sat down to show it is finished. Sitting down is a place of rest. We are now seated with Him in a place of security, safety, love and acceptance forever, in heavenly places of rest. That is good news!

Sheep are the class of livestock that require the most attention and care. They cannot take care of themselves. They need a Shepherd or they will actually die. We are compared with sheep in the Bible. In fact, references to sheep, shepherd, sheepfold, etc. are made hundreds of times. In my research, I read that those terms are listed up to 600 times. God could have chosen any other animal to compare us with, but He purposely chose sheep so that we could learn something about Him being our good Shepherd and us being His dependent sheep.

The following is one of many examples:

Sheep will not lie down if they are hungry and distressed. They will also not lie down if they are full of parasites. It is the shepherd’s responsibility to make sure that his sheep are full, at peace, safe, and completely free of parasites. It is a joy for the shepherd to care for his sheep. The shepherd's life is totally devoted to taking care of their every need. Jesus said in John 6:35,

“I am the Bread of Life. The one who comes to Me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in Me [as Savior] will never be thirsty [for that one will be sustained spiritually].” (John 6:35, AMP)

He, being our Good Shepherd, is the one who satisfies our every need, and He is the one that will provide for us and keep us safe and it brings joy to the Father’s heart when we depend on Him for everything. He loves to see us thriving. He knows how to take care of us more than we even know how to take care of ourselves. We can “lie down” because He satisfies our every need!

I consider parasites to represent the enemy. They come to harass the sheep. The enemy comes to try to steal your peace, your joy, and even your life. He comes in with accusations and lies because he is the father of lies.

Praise the Lord that Jesus came and destroyed the works of the devil. The enemy is defeated and as a result, we can “lie down” and rest. Jesus took care of the enemies of death, sin, sickness, and the old law system. What good news!

It is knowing the finished work of Jesus Christ that causes us to live a life of rest. He is our rest! Rest is not passivity, rather rest is a lifestyle. We can rest in our trials, we can rest in our jobs, we can rest while ministering, we can rest while parenting, etc.

I believe real rest comes from knowing that God sees you as forgiven, righteous, accepted, and loved. Rest comes from knowing you have a Safe Shepherd that will protect you and watch over you and provide for you.

Rest comes from knowing that our Good Shepherd is faithful, even when we are not. He is faithful to love you, help you, rescue you, guide you, lead you, and search for you if you start to wander off the good path. We are the object of His love and affection and when that is something that we truly believe in our hearts, it causes us to live a life of rest and peace.

Keeping our eyes on our Good Shepherd (Isaiah 26:3) who never leads us astray and resting in His amazing love for us, eliminates fear and anxiety, and in its place, produces a heart at rest and peace.

Excellent post Grace777!

Very much agree word for word with Nichole Marbach here!!. That is exactly how I believe Jesus deals with me. Sheep can't take care of themselves and they are the worst ones to be trying to follow one another or obey their own ideas or impulses about what to do to survive on their own. When they follow each other without the Good Shepherd, the whole bunch of them go in a herd or flock off the boat into the ocean sort of speak.

Saw a video about thousands of these sheep going through town and over hill and dale just following the herd and the shepherd at the lead. They are soooo clueless about the dangers of life. All they know is at the moment they are headed to wherever they are going and expect safety and are just headed on and lead through life. And they are totally shocked when they are led astray and get all tangled up in their wool in the bushes. They bleat and baaa in distress and shock and fear of it all. And the Good Shepherd comes and gets them out.

And it's so sad to see one of them or a bunch of them get gotten by a wolf or pack of wolves. They get steered off the path by some distraction and stupidly go thinking it's OK. Then have no defense at all.,not even 1 defense! and their cries are so shocking and terror filled and awful just the thought can bring me to tears. Especially the lone sheep who goes off being lead away to their utter doooom.

We need to look at one another (and also the unsaved) like a sheep when someone gets 'got' or getting caught in snares hid in strategic positions in places least expected., and or attached by ravenous wolves in the world., or the roaring lion who goes about seeking whom he may devour. They are sheep.,maybe the unsaved are the black sheep or something but either way you look at them, they are with no defence without the Good Shepherd. They can't untangle themselves on their own. They need the Good Shepherd just like we did. The sheep is a very interesting study and the devoted good kind of shepherds who watch them.

Reading this description you posted Grace777 truly shows a picture of Jesus to me. We can't get those disgusting parasites off us, we can't fight the wolves and lions and we are clueless as to where to find the water and food. And to read how the Good Shepherd is devoted to His sheep and protects and guides all of them taking care of their every need being a defense in all situations. We are the sheep of HIS Pasture. We are His and He is ours. Rest is a lifestyle of following the leading of our Shepherd.

This does sure destroy the religious views that "we" somehow have something to offer the Good Shepherd as if He was in need of our 'helping' Him. Religious sheep have delusions of grandeur don't they!!

The Pharisees very zealously kept His laws, even to the finest frogs' hair.
But Jesus called them hypocrites.
Why?

Because they still sinned,(could not keep the law) Yet complained about the other sinners..

Ok, just because it is you. But, either people here keep track of this, or they do not. I have posted this so many times it is not worth continuing to do so because too many people simply ignore the post, and accept what is taught in Scripture, because it does not fit their theological ideologies.

Romans 3:19) Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

20 .) Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 .) But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

(this speaks of the Levitical Laws of the First Covenant)

22
.) Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

(this is the introduction of the Law of Faith)

23
.) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 .) Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 .) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 .) To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
27 .) Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

(clear enough?)

28 .) Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
29 .) Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

30 .) Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
31 .) Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

for additional clarification (if needed)

The Law.................Faith

Here is my interpretation.

Man is justified by faith, Not law (the law can never make anyone righteous)
The law is a schoolmaster, to bring us to christ (because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God)

Thus by faith we establish the law (the law brings a curse, because no one can keep it, and everyone's mouth is shut, because all are guilty)
Faith brings about justification, because Christ became a curse for us.

So the law of faith is not faith in the law. But faith that the law condemns me, Because I can not keep it.. This I must always look to Christ.

1 John 4:1

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1 Thessalonians 5:

19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire;
20 do not treat prophecies with contempt.
21 Test everything. Hold on to the good.

Sirach 24:1

Wisdom praises herself, and tells of her glory in the midst of her people.

Sirach 24:

17 Like the vine I bud forth delights, and my blossoms become glorious and abundant fruit.
19 "Come to me, you who desire me, and eat your fill of my fruits.

Wisdom 3:15

For the fruit of good labors is renowned, and the root of understanding does not fail

Sirach 22:1

The idler is like a filthy stone, and every one hisses at his disgrace.

Sirach 14:

18 Like abundant leaves on a spreading tree that sheds some and puts forth others, so are the generations of flesh and blood: one dies and another is born.

Sirach 6:

18 My child, from your youth choose discipline, and when you have gray hair you will still find wisdom.
19 Come to her like one who plows and sows, and wait for her good harvest. For when you cultivate her you will toil but little, and soon you will eat of her produce.

21 She will be like a heavy stone to test them, and they will not delay in casting her aside.
22 For wisdom is like her name; she is not readily perceived by many.

26 Come to her with all your soul, and keep her ways with all your might.
27 Search out and seek, and she will become known to you; and when you get hold of her, do not let her go.
28 For at last you will find the rest she gives, and she will be changed into joy for you.

Wisdom 7:

22 for wisdom, the fashioner of all things, taught me. There is in her a spirit that is intelligent, holy, unique, manifold, subtle, mobile, clear, unpolluted, distinct, invulnerable, loving the good, keen, irresistible,
23 beneficent, humane, steadfast, sure, free from anxiety, all-powerful, overseeing all, and penetrating through all spirits that are intelligent, pure, and altogether subtle.
24 For wisdom is more mobile than any motion; because of her pureness she pervades and penetrates all things.
25 For she is a breath of the power of God, and a pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty; therefore nothing defiled gains entrance into her.
26 For she is a reflection of eternal light, a spotless mirror of the working of God, and an image of his goodness.
27 Although she is but one, she can do all things, and while remaining in herself, she renews all things; in every generation she passes into holy souls and makes them friends of God, and prophets;
28 for God loves nothing so much as the person who lives with wisdom.
29 She is more beautiful than the sun, and excels every constellation of the stars. Compared with the light she is found to be superior,
30 for it is succeeded by the night, but against wisdom evil does not prevail.

Sirach 19:20

The whole of wisdom is fear of the Lord, and in all wisdom there is the fulfillment of the law.
I've never heard of some of those scriptures.

Romans 4:14-16
King James Version(KJV)

14.)For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:

15.)Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

16.)Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

The Law.................Faith

The Law of faith here is expounding on what the Lord Jesus says and gives us in Matthew 11. It is expounding on His Rest.

It requires faith to come to Christ. It requires continuing faith to receive the rest that the Lord gives.

Does this rest make the law void? No. It establishes the law. By the Holy Spirit.

It is the fruit of the Spirit that establishes the law and this is formed by the Lord Jesus Christ by faith.

I'm not arguing with you here just expounding on what this rest is and how it ties in with the Law of faith.

Romans 8:2-4
[SUP]2 [/SUP]For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
[SUP]4 [/SUP]That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Mt 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Our burden that we cannot bear is our sin debt. Jesus takes that from us and gives us eternal life.

For the cause of Christ
Roger
The strength of this sin debt is the law.

There isn't anyone who can stand in front of Gods Perfect Law and say yep, I'm doing it.

2 Corinthians 3:8-9
[SUP]8 [/SUP]How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
[SUP]9 [/SUP]For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

Ministration of Condemnation. Did you know that is speaking of the 10 Commandments?

Ministration of Righteousness. Did you know that is speaking of the Holy Spirit by way of Faith in Christ?

There remains therefore a Sabbath "rest" for those who believe in Christ and do not go back to the Law.

We "rest" in what Christ has done for us and "rest" in His life being manifested in our lives by the Holy Spirit within us.

Hebrews 8:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] When He said, "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.

After 70 AD when the temple was torn down by the Romans. ..that was the end of the temple sacrifices for the Jewish people.

Jesus Himself is all that we need now. We have the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, the law of love, the law of faith, the law of liberty in Christ and the law of Christ - we have Christ by the Holy Spirit to lead us now in this newness of the spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

These are the laws that the Holy Spirit puts in our hearts. Jesus Himself and His life.

Do not go back to the Law and commit spiritual adultery on the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 7:1-6 - we have died to the Law SO THAT we may be joined to another - the Lord Jesus Christ.

Well of course there remains a Sabbath rest. It belongs to God. It was here many years ago, and it will be hear many years from now. Praise be to our God, YHVH, through Yeshua HaMashiach!!!

Because they still sinned,(could not keep the law) Yet complained about the other sinners..
I thought we all came to agreement but you may have missed the posts. :)
Paul said as to the law, he was blameless.
I've heard people say that there are over 600 laws and that it was impossible to keep them all.
Paul seems to be saying that he kept them all very zealously.
That is, OUTWARDLY.
From his youth, he was raised to carefully observe the law and he says as to the "righteousness" that comes by the law, that he was blameless.

No man, or even God, would have found blame in how Paul kept the law - outwardly.
But God said, they always err IN THEIR HEARTS.
To keep the law outwardly and carefully but to keep their HEARTS from God - that was NEVER what God wanted.

Anyway, you may have read the later posts by now and seen what we arrived at. :)
Men are always concerned with what their outside does and looks like but God is concerned with what their heart does and looks like. And this makes perfect sense since the outside can look mighty clean, upright and good while the inside can be horrifying.

But he was so nice, quiet, clean, pleasant, solicitous, charming...how do serial murders who do things like cook and eat people live peacefully beside so many people who were completely unaware of their evil? You see their stunned faces on the news when they say, he was thoughtful, so nice, the perfect neighbor...

Had my pointer hovering over the "Like" option, then I got to this wee part, and uh, well, er, I need to ask you for a wee bit of clarification......is this referring to "predestination salvation?" As in the Calvinistic Theology?
No my friend I am not a Calvinist....all have sinned and come short.....for God so loved the world that he gave....seems like a equal balance.

The Pharisees very zealously kept His laws, even to the finest frogs' hair.
But Jesus called them hypocrites.
Why?
Actually this is a common misunderstanding and is error, they didn't keep the Fathers laws or our Savior would not have said this: Mat 15:3
But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
Mat 15:7
Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
Mat 15:8
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Mat 15:9
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

see, what they obeyed to the finest detail was their own laws and traditions, but not what the Father had instructed...
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Mat 15:9

Mike you cannot serve two masters... trusting in the Lord is trusting in his finished work....he is not your get out of jail free card...or is that the way you look at him?......if you want to identify with the Sabbath and feast that's fine no one here knowing scripture will say it's wrong but to insist on it being needed now we raise our swords. The law did not save anyone and did not put anyone above anyone else for 6000 yrs. Is your story different? Are you the exception? .........just saying.

I think you may have missed the most important instruction of all.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

What were you saved from? Why did you need a saviour?

And what is this rest the Lord speaks of?
