This is interesting because it reflects some of what we went into this weekend.....

A major flaw of so much theology is that it begins with abstract notions of God, filling out divinity with metaphysical terminology. One can see an example of this in the Westminster Confession (1647) that our new friend mentioned, where God is described, not with reference to saving acts in history, but as a series of adjectives and nouns:

“There is but one only living and true God, who is infinite in being and perfection, a most pure spirit, invisible, without body, parts or passions, immutable, immense, eternal, incomprehensible, almighty, most wise, most holy, most free, most absolute, working all things immutable and most righteous will, for his own glory; most loving, gracious, merciful, long suffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity, transgression and sin; the rewarder of them that diligently seek him; and with all most just and terrible in his judgments, hating all sin, and who will by no means clear the guilty.”

So abstract has God become that in describing God there is no mention of the specific, final, authoritative revelation of God’s character in Jesus.

Lest one think that the centuries old Westminster Confession has lost its influence, Rick Warren in his best selling The Purpose Driven Life suggests the same thing. By contrast, the Bible does not begin with an abstract God in relation to an abstract humanity, it begins with the relation of a specific God (Creator of all that is) to a specific person, Abram, and then to a specific people, Israel, and finally to a specific person, Jesus.

Now this is not to say that all of the above quote from Westminster might not be true but it misses the biblical trajectory of history and narrative. That is, it doesn’t tell the story of how God has acted. It fails to observe that God’s being is revealed in God’s acts, most notably the act of the incarnation, life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus. One of the key aspects of contemporary work on Jesus is the recognition that there is a deep connection between character and behavior. To experience a person, how they act toward you is to know them. We know who Jesus is by how he acted. Moreover, the early Christians made the bold claim that God has acted (thus revealing God’s self) definitively in Jesus.

lol.

no, you are in small company, A few people came in with your attitude and pride, they are no longer here.

You can have your words of men you follow. I follow the words of God, called the cannon of scripture. I do as paul said, and test all men to see if their words are true or not. The words of men should not base any mans doctrine.

Your a follower of man. thats your first mistake.

if you want to stay here long, I suggest you change your attitude.
Yeah, there is that same puffed up knowledge in every division/ camp (whether in one or not) or whether they (even of the same) agree more in things (or not) it really doesnt seem very different. That same pride (or looking down their noses at others in some of those differences only to insult them in it) but being no where competent enough, or even apt to teach in such a place. But the same seems to exist within each and every division there is out there, but the actual tude depends more on the man (from whichever camp he claims to be of).

I was in the zionist rapture cult 20 years ago until God released me from it. You can teach me nothing about it
God released you from nothing. Your antisemitism clouded your mind and your spirit so you could no longer see the truth.

lol.

.... and I give him the rest of the day, and that's being generous.

I dont see how Christ is even to be known after the flesh

John 14:7If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Col 1:15
Who is the image of the invisible God,

Heb 1:3
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person

The flesh seems to be more of a veil

2 cr 5:16
Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

Gotta say that I have learned much here.
Yeah... me, too. Mostly I've learned not to expect much on this forum in the way of "revelation". The truth of Christ has indeed been put within us, as Christ himself has been put within us. And the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation testifies to the life that is found in me (and all those who are children of God).

For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual discerns all things, yet he himself is discerned by no one. For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:10-16

You know I have no problem with the word of God.... so how about knocking that _____ off?

I have problems with us seizing on a certain selected section, and worshiping it. For instance, the Bible says God is both angry and loving. So different groups grab what they want, and claim they are standing on God's word. (Westboro does it all the time)

There are, basically, two interpretations (or expectations) of the Messiah......... The avenging warrior king the crowd hoped to see come and save them from Rome, and the Jesus who showed up to die in love. Scripture can be made to verify anyone's claim of either, but it really only showed one if we don't read it with pre-intent.

Well a couple of points to ponder....

1. I am no member of Westboro and they like many religions go to seed on any number of things and if that is what you are saying then you should have just said it....

2. God inspired the words LIGHT, LOVE and SPIRIT as well as the BE verbs that go with this those words and leads to a bunch of deep truth concerning God, his nature and character so to DISQUALIFY the NOUNS used under inspiration did seem to be an issue with the inspired word of GOD as well as your response to my ???? If I misread your response I apologize.

3. My neighbor for a long time was CoC and he was good as gold when in the church doors and then cussed like a sailor when away from HIS FLOCK...which word should I put in the BLANK Brother?

You know I have no problem with the word of God.... so how about knocking that _____ off?

Theres some that embrace both equally

Romans 11:22Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God:
on them which fell, severity;
but toward thee, goodness,
if thou continue in
his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Although I dont see you use the scriptures much.

I dont think you can worship the scripture, only study them, believe them, and obey his words

Thank God my whole church says what they mean, inside a "building" or out. And you know what word I meant, Marine.

I said nothing about disqualifying words used to describe God. I said that using only those words, as so many sanctimonious creeds do, to describe God's intent and desire is an awfully weak display of little more than pious-sounding platitudes.

which comes from proper interpretation and hermeneutics.

From Gods perfect character,

his perfect justice and righteousness must show anger, because he demands perfection

From Gods perfect love, he is perfect love.

His love can not over rule his justice (which is way a payment had to be made) but his love could fulfill his justice (hence redemption and atonement for sin)

take away the hermeneutic and context. then yes your right people can twist these two things ane make doctrines which do not even begin to resemble the character of God.

Amen, that's why I seek only the guidance of the Master and the Holy Spirit, who guides into all truth.
Ok, granted. But I have an issue when you tell others who don't understand what you wrote that God has not given them His understanding. Because as you hopefully recall, the Lord said if we lack wisdom, ask HIM and He will give it. You catching my drift? God gives wisdom & understanding to anyone asking and seeking Him. You're saying God didn't give understanding to those who don't agree with your write-up.

We cannot forget that God's justice is not giving the bad guy what he has coming, but rather God's justice is righting wrongs... returning things to their correct order.

Gods justice demands payment for sin.

He told adam, you will die if you sin. Thats why Gods wrath had to be poured on Jesus (death) in order for gods love to save mankind.

which is how he tried to bring back to the way it was intended.
